Some players must have known.

Jason Taylor raised a good point on FSN in that all contracts have to be registered with the nrl and signed. Therefore players would need to sign the lower $ bogus contract which is registered whilst recieving a different $ amount. Not suggesting all players but certainly some had to have colluded and signed a false contract.

  • Yeah but they don't necessarily know where the extra payment are coming from - they may have been told that they were coming from a legal third party.

I hate to repeat myself but all teams have players who receive extra payments - the question is whether it is a legal extra payment or not.

In my opinion it is a highly technical question where there is a lot of scope for 'grey area'.
    • Well your a lawyer so would know more than I on these matters. As fas as I knew though the 3rd party deals are also registered? If so the players had to have either known something was wrong or they are stupid.

The reason it's a sore point for me is it would really shit me if players were found culpible who lifted the trophy in celebration.
  • You would think some players would have had an educated guess if they were being paid by 2 or 3 different accounts etc.

Unless they received money in paper bags they would not know for certain and would certainly not ask questions.

Doing the maths would not help because you would not know what the others are on.
  • Well the nrl needs to investigate the player culpability quite quickly and if they are all clean then anounce it and stress the point. Otherwise when they play in Sydney it's going to get ugly me thinks. There is a small number of fans from any club that take things way too far eg the coin thrower when we played against manly and Lyon returned. I would hate our club to be tarnished.
    • I can really see that happening aswell Normo, I myself would love to be at that game and give it to the Storm and I can see the parra supporters who are really passionate (and mental) going a little too far and doing the same with the coins.

I'm thinking I might try and get tickets for that game now and make a really really blunt sign to hold for all teh Storm players and Bellamy to see.
  • Normo that is correct but the cover up probably went to the extent of registering false third party payments.

Mate I don't know any more than you about this but I think it would be hard to blame the players.

And I'll put it to you this way Normo - even if they did know who cares really??

Its the players's responsibility to play their hardest and collect the money they are promised by the club - nothing more nothing less.
    • I care mate obviously that's why I started a blog. I personally think it's niave to think The players were completely in the dark.
  • Ok.

I personally think they should certainly look at Bellamy, you can't tell me that a coach as 'hands on' in the administration of the club as he is wouldn't have had at least a vague idea of the goings on.
    • Agreed on bellamy. I'm sure the auditors will uncover anything that's there to find.

To be fair I should reserve judgement on the players until the investigation finishes. It ain't fair and I suppose it's plausible that none of them knew.

What made me think that players may have known was last Monday night when cam smith had the worst game I have ever seen him play. Knocked on twice from dummy half and missed the goal that would have tied the game by a huge margin. I can't help but think that he wasn't fully concentrated on the game?
  • Didn't think about that - he certainly looked dark after the game - but it could just be a concidence.

It will all come out in the washup mate!!
