Some perspective on last Night

A great start but we need to put things in perspective. Firstly we should not get carried away. We were good and I loved being at the game enjoying such a win. However, we not as good as we need to be. You don't win a competition at the start of the season, so to me this game gave us two points and gave an indication that we are going to build from last year. It also showed off many of the goals Parra were working for in their off season training (eg their aggressive defence after a kick). In perspective a solid game which gave a solid base to build from. From another perspective, we need to be realistic about player expectations. There are calls for players to be dropped after last night. This is difficult to comprehend. Our halves and Semi were the only backline players from last year playing in the same positions. With Hoppa in a new position and 2 new centres and a new winger, the combinations will need time to click. Yet look at what they still achieved! As for the forwards, they laid the platform for that game. The handling in the hit ups needs to improve but we couldn't fault the aggression of any forward.Of course we can both praise or criticise as fans. But let's be realistic and also enjoy a good solid win.On another note, is anyone else here a bit dusty voice-wise today?

    • Yes mate. From training blogs. attack with the ball, attack against the ball. They were working on this attitude. BA is an attacking coach.
  • Loved the win.PARRA PARRA PARRA till my voice couldn't do no more.but in perspective great team spirit even when things went wrong there were pats on the back and head, that shows a TEAM.We are definitely not soft thru the middle anymore (bulldogs big pack will test my theory)but we are vulnerable on fringes.Aggression was great,Thanks CHOC.We can score points something that we haven't been able to do in recent years, and kick goals as we'll.
  • Its such a long season, last year we were good for most of it and still missed out,we have to be good all year.manly were ordinary last night and really missed watmough Stewart and matai.and if we dont cut out the stupid errors and penalties then we will lose against good teams.
  • I think Manly have totally lost the plot. They bought an ageing Willie Mason. A totally overweight Feleti Mateo and they let go their best forwards in Choc, Stewart.
Manly are where ParrA was when we bought Walker and Webb and co.
  • Too much dropped ball in attack and too many penalties in defence. Can't be doing that against top teams as the season goes on. If we can cut those to things out and fix up our edge defence, which will come with time as combinations work, we will be very hard to beat.
    • Definitely this. The top teams will definitely exploit us there if we don't fix these few things.
    • Agreed. More importantly, we make it a habit of doing it early in the game or late in the tackle count.

  • As much as I loved watching parra smash manly like that, I refuse to get carried away. I often think back to 2013, when we belted the warriors in the same way round 1, and ended up with the spoon that year.. I'm in no way saying we'll get the spoon, far from it, but I'm not getting excited about making the finals till at least half way through the season. Far too many errors for my liking, and Joseph Paulo needs to be cut.. Don't know what he's doing on that field...
  • Too true Sixties. Not to mention the fact that Manly were understrength with Taufua & Matai already out before losing Gutherson and Foran. Manly were very average in the second half and there are many teams in the comp that would have beaten them by more.

A good start but as Arthur said, there are a few things we need to fix up straight away if we want to remain competitive throughout the season.

  • Sixties you know there are members on this site that would be complaining even on the day we win the Grand Final they just can't help themselves

"I really like Samrani but if JR decides to give him up for MB I think that is a massive mistake.
IMO Samrani should be 1st drop for either centre/ wing if one of our starters is out. Brian Kelly is bog average and not going to get better.
