Six Again Needs to be Scrapped

Watching the Roosters v Dragons match. Great quality game but the Roosters have definitely been getting a 6 again helping hand and 8 times out of 10 I honestly don't see any legitimate basis for them. Seriously how many match outcomes are determined by this absurd 6 again rule. It seriously needs to be either scrapped or a cap put on the amount of times it can be awarded per game. It's destroying the game in my opinion.

I like the way the set restart rule has lowered the stoppages in the game, however, I think the rule itself needs to be changed. I would like to see the set restart changed to replay the tackle the infringement was made. For example, if the defending team do something wrong on tackle 4, instead of the attacking team getting a set restart the referee simply calls 4th tackle again.  Currently, fans look at the amount of set restarts and if they are equal for both teams they think that's ok. But the biggest factor is when each team receives the restarts. If 1 team gets 6 restarts all on tackle 1 or 2 and the other team also gets 6 restarts but on tackle 4 or 5 this team gets a huge advantage.

  • Maybe just award a penalty like it used to be but if you want a straight six again to keep momentum then it's up to the captain if he wants to find touch?

  • Agree it's a it's served it's purpose and you'd argue of late its deciding the outcome games - it's the equivalent of rugby which they call "phases" imo scrap the 6 again rule and send players to the bin for 5 minutes for repeated ruck infringements. The other stupid rule change is the short kick off seriously how many contests does the game need?? Scrap that BS change, so the reward for forcing a line drop out is losing the ball from short kick off !! Hello how came up that shitty idea??

    • I like your 5 in the bin idea. I don't mind the short kick off but didn't it used to be that if it didn't go ten or went out it was a penatly and therefor there was more assosiated risk going for it?

      • Nrl is obsessed with making the game faster and having more contests it's doesn't make a  for better product - your right it used to  be a penalty if the ball didn't make 10 m, teams in the past used to work really hard for territory and momentum now its handed to a team with ease based on the refs interruptation. Golden point should be scrapped as well and teams can settle for a draw and 1 point each. The other issue with the 6 again rule is it's being for other infringements and at times on players and viewers have no idea what the infringements was just be done with it

        • Golden try for Golden point.

  • The problem with getting rid of the set restart is the return of the dreaded wrestle.  Wrestling has by far been the biggest blight on the game for a long time.

I believe the game was at it's best in the 90's, early 2000's  and then the wrestle was introduced,  slowing down the ruck. Grinding was the way to win, limit your passing and offloads to minimise mistakes,  structured play with halves playing only one side and an extra prop at lock, no thanks.

I don't have the solution but it needs tinkering,  maybe just have it for slowing down the ruck, everything else is a penalty like it use to be.

  • It hasn't cost Parramatta any games. We're just shithouse

I like the fatigue factor in games so going back to full penalties would bore people to death

  • 6 again was the beginning of the end of the NRL. There's a 6 again every tackle if you really look at it. Markers aren't always square, not ervey player is back 10, there's always a hand on the ball, etc.

6 agains are subjective so it's a lucky dip. It also ensures refs can influence who wins a game very easily
