Siosaia Vave

Not the sort of blog I'd usually post, but the Eels are heavily linked to Siosaia Vave.

EDIT: It looks increasingly likely that he will indeed sign with us as Manly need to relieve some cap space.

EDIT: Conflicting reports on his age but he's 27, not 31. Take a look at his stats and his impact off the bench and his form speaks for itself.

His 2016 stats so far:

Rd 1 (bench): 26 minutes, 82m from 11 runs (7.45m per run), 23 tackles, 1 offload & 0 missed tackles.

Rd 2 (bench): 22 minutes, 74m from 7 runs (10.57m per run), 1 tackle break, 10 tackles & 0 missed tackles.

Rd 3 (bench): 20 minutes, 90m from 9 runs (10m per run), 1 tackle break, 16 tackles, 1 error & 0 missed tackles.

Rd 4 (bench): 44 minutes, 117m from 13 runs (9m per run), 19 tackles, 1 offload & 0 missed tackles.

Rd 5 (bench): 42 minutes, 157m from 17 runs (9.24m per run), 24 tackles, 2 offloads, 1 error, 1 penalty conceded & 0 missed tackles.

Rd 6 (bench): 41 minutes, 92m from 10 runs (9.2m per run), 2 tackle breaks, 19 tackles & 1 missed tackle.

Rd 7 (bench): 34 minutes, 113m from 10 runs (11.3m per run), 17 tackles, 1 penalty conceded & 0 missed tackles.

Rd 8 (bench): 29 minutes, 96m from 10 runs (9.6m per run), 2 tackle breaks, 14 tackles, 1 offload & 1 missed tackle.

Rd 9 (bench): 37 minutes, 109m from 11 runs (9.91m per run), 20 tackles, 2 offloads, 1 line-break assist, 1 penalty conceded & 1 missed tackle.

Rd 10 (prop): 31 minutes, 39m from 6 runs (6.5m per run), 21 tackles, 1 offload & 2 missed tackles.

Rd 11 (bench): 36 minutes, 92m from 9 runs (10.22m per run), 12 tackles, 2 offloads & 0 missed tackles.

Rd 12: BYE.

Rd 13 (bench): 50 minutes, 90m from 13 runs (6.92m per run), 15 tackles, 1 offload, 1 line-break assist & 2 missed tackles.

Rd 14 (bench): 31 minutes, 101m from 11 runs (9.18m per run), 1 tackle break, 15 tackles, 1 offload & 0 missed tackles.

Rd 15 (bench): 46 minutes, 101m from 10 runs (10.1m per run), 1 tackle break, 23 tackles, 1 offload, 1 penalty conceded & 2 missed tackles.

As you can see, pretty solid all-round.
Hits hard and makes plenty of metres before and after contact.
Can evade tackles, offloads well and with the right support play, can put a player through a hole with a deft pass or smart offload.

Very sound defensively as well in the middle.

So keep your eyes peeled on this one, for Vave might just be joining us.

  • For 2017 or before June 30 ?
    • For 2017.

  • 31 years old.

This guy is a shoe in for the Parramatta Eels retirement home for over the hill players.

    FOUR year contracr for sure.

PLUS the added advantage is he comes from Manly -now you just know he will have injuries to stop him playing more than 3 games over the term of his contract.

    • He's had a pretty good run with injuries, Col.

And at 31, he's outperforming a lot of Manly's younger forwards - both props and back-rowers. I'd go as far as to say that he's possibly their most in-form forward at present.

He'd be a very handy addition.

    • I agree, we never have much luck getting the plus 30s
    • Phil you're correct, still hurting from Webb and Walker...
    • Shot down again Mush... Lol with great valid points.
    • Would be alright for 2 years until Twal and any other junior prop come thru. Would be good to learn from a hard nut.

    • Wow what great optimism you have poppy, by the way he is 27 yrs old

  • Not arguing what he has done Ricky - just over this mad rush to recruit OLD MEN.

How about we look at developing Alvaro, Tep, Edwards, O'Brien and the like.

If we have to buy in a player then someone in their mid 20s on the way UP - not someone with at best only 1 or 2 years left in them.

If we have a younger player we are watching and developing over the next season then at best a 1 year deal.

Not every forward is a Petro or Corey Parker.
