Sin Bin

After the events of this weekend, I think the NRL need to have another look at the Sin Bin. I'm not saying that professional fouls shouldn't be penalised but I think that the time penalty for these type of fouls needs to be looked at.Just watching the Melbourne game, Blake Ayshford was put in the bin for holding down too long after a Melbourne break. The Storm scored twice in those 10mns giving them a match winning lead. Same thing happened in the Cowboys match.Given the speed of the game today, plus the limited interchanges, I think that the sin bin should be limited to 5 mins or less or we will see the winners of games being decided in those 10mins. I think that's pretty unfair. What do you reckon guys? Maybe the loss of two interchanges or 5min sin bin maybe a fairer result.

  • Good point frank, the 5 minutes probably needs to be revisited and we need consistency across the board, i recon we are at the point where there needs to be a summit regarding the interpretations of rules and the consistency of how they are applied, its a freakin joke atm.

  • What if we substituted a penalty try for a sin bin where possible? Would players take the same action if they knew it would result in a try either way?

The sin bin could still be used for some offenses eg deliberate head high etc.
  • I don't have a problem with the sin bin. It's like a red card in soccer for a really cynical foul. I was ok with the Norman sin binning but I'm not ok with the bullshit obstruction call in the first half which totally changed the course of the game in my opinion
  • Would a put on report be suffice for a professional fowl . A defender can take out a playmaker or in fact anyone carrying the ball with a careless or illegal hit be put on report & stay on the field
    • Christeel are you talking about cockfighting or RL? :)

    • The " greatest game of all " snake ( nrl ) why do you ask ?
    • Haha thanks for that correction "snake" ..just feeling for those roosters got to me i think .
  • They won't bring back the 5 minutes sin bin but I agree 10 minutes is too big a penalty in the modern game for some of the indiscretions they use it for.
  • Most teams could do it with 8 men against the tigers.
  • 'Professional Fowl"

Plus it frees up some spots like we all know who 5/8 will be but now no idea."
