Silver Lining

Hayne is gone, presumably to chase superstardom and corporate sponsorship in the NFL (I don't buy that he's no longer challenged by the NRL especially coming from a guy with 2 wooden spoons, no premiership and hasn't played finals footy in 5 years). As talented as he is and no matter the void he'll leave behind I really think Parra will be better off without him and here's why:1. Paulo will finally get dropped;2. The rest of the playing group will be forced to pick up their game; and3. We will have the cap space to chase marquee players and build a balanced squad. What positives can you take out of today's events?

  • Mate lets hope your right, BUT we are going to be fucked for another 3 years here.

We have to start from the bottom and totally rebuild a team, jarryd is just such a huge influence.

We have no confidence without him, nor do we have the talent, we are going to be screwed for a few years.

We will be a bottom 3 team next year, probably bottom 4 the year after, 3 years away we might be still fighting mid table, its a shattering loss.

    • Not sure I agree here. Next year is pretty much a write off but if we can pick up say Foran for 2016 our forwards keep developing Hoppa fills in at the back and a few juniors blossom (particularly the halves) 16/17 still could hold some hope.
    • Chin up Snake. I actually think we're going to be stronger next year. With no Hayne to rely on, BA will get the best out of the rest of the squad.
    • Snake, we often seem to disagree, but on this one we seem to be together in the minority camp. Hayne's departure means a rebuild based on a different game plan and recruitment needs than what existed with Hayne there.

I honestly think bottom 4 next year. Not because I like to be Debbie Downer. But I think that is realistic. Our halves cannot carry the load.
  • No crab paulo is something I blogged earlier today - it's a massive positive

Snake I see this as potentially setting us up for a top 8 finish next yr
  • What positives? None. It's psychological denial to go hunting positives. BA spent a year building a game plan and recruitment strategy that hinged on a style of play where Hayne was freed to have quality touches; quality over quantity. Now we have a non-organizing halfback and a five eight that does not take the line on, with no Hayne to compensate. With Hayne there Sandow could play to his strengths and Norman could play strictly within his abilities (distribute and organize, avoid the need to decide plays on the fly). Now we have two halves limited in their own way without a ball playing fullback to compensate.

There is no silver lining. I'd like to say good luck, Hayne, you did Parra proud and deserve your shot at your dream. But when he leaves abruptly he minimizes the chance to recruit based on his absence, leaving the Eels unbalanced going into 2015, and frankly that I find pretty shitty behaviour.
    • Totally agreed, we are royally screwed for all the above reasons.

Yobz replied to Yobz's discussion 2026 Disrupter Rule - Why wasn't this a penalty to the Eels?
"If the purpose of the rule is to not have "one hand interfering with the opposition player", it should be worded as such."

SuperEel 22 replied to Yobz's discussion 2026 Disrupter Rule - Why wasn't this a penalty to the Eels?
"1. The rule is dumb and incredibly vague.
2. It's a coin toss decision
3. According to The Bunker in this game, basically making it look like you're going to go with 2 hands is good enough.
Can't wait for this stupid rule to ruin a rep/finals game."
