Signings!

There are so many questions on our side. Where is it going so wrong? Or us it that we are slowly getting it right? This team certainly playing better then past teams. The last couple of years we were getting flogged! But I feel this team playing some outstanding football & it's exciting to watch. This brings me to recruitment! Who in charge of it? I see a desperate side trying to bring Gordon to the team which I don't think he would be any better then how Reece is playing. Gordon 32 or there about's, a player we have to sign for two years. But as we look at teams going forward, say the Bulldogs. There after warriors Brad Abbey & Raiders young gun Brenko Lee, both young & talented. Raiders are after Kevin Locke 26yrs of age, he to can play outstanding football too.I realise our team young, they are trying to play an 80min game but they have a bit to learn & catch up. Bringing youth comes at a price but we are building for the future, I think we are on the right track, sticking with youth would help.

  • Robinson positional play is lacking. Yes he is doing a good job. Gordan will b a better option for next year as his experience will make up for his lack of speed and can kick goals. Reese is a better winger than fullback.
  • All good points I guess.
  • The head of recruitment and retention is Peter Sharp, he talks to managers and whatnot, Brad Arthur is involved as he gets to pick what team he wants, Daniel Anderson would be involved as he deals with the salary cap so he advises how much we can spend on players. Outside of those 3 probably Steve Sharp, and Scott Seward in minor roles.

We are after Gordon and not younger fullbacks because we are putting faith in French being ready by 2017. There's no point in paying fullback money to Abbey or any other fullback when we'd have to move him in one year's time to another position. We also know that Gordon is a handy winger so if we sign him for next year (hopefully can still get him for this year) then if French is ready we can move Gordon to the wing.

    • Luke Page is terrible, he was non-existent for PNG against Fiji and is only known because of that 3 run highlight package. Adam Docker is also incredibly overhyped by everyone but Panthers fans. He makes some big hits, which is awesome to watch but he runs out of the line frequently and a heads-up player will step around him or pin-point him and work to exploit it very easily. On top of that he's nowhere to be seen in attack, very much in the mould of Darcy Lussick.

  • Yeh, I guess as Ham said you also need to consider who's coming through. Right now, the player knocking on the door is clearly Bevan French so there isn't a lot of point signing any player who you don't think is going to be better than Bevan in the long-term. Gordon is a safe signing, he'll do a job as both a fullback and wing and he won't be on a lot of money. If Bevan comes through quickly than  He'll fill the exact same kind of role as IDG has and I reckon that's worked very well and people had all the same concerns with him.

Our ideal player right now is a versatile young outside back who can play across wing, centre and fullback. Jordan Kahu who is obviously the perfect candidate but unfortunately he plays for the Broncos and they seldom lose a player they want to keep. But that's the type of player I believe we're looking for - there will be a few players likely crop up who are on contract before the end of the year too as you'll get clubs wanting to juggle their cap.

  • Yeah Kahu for sure & I think Cornish is worth a shot & won't cost a packet
    • That's my dream result!

    • Your love for Cornish is gettin scary Phil
