Sign Joseph Manu

Just recently read a channel 9 article claiming that Latrell Mitchell will be the player to make way for David Fifita at the Roosters. Probably a smart move with Latrell’s current maturity and headspace....

The interesting part of the article was that the Roosters are close to resigning Joseph Manu for $550k a season. This sounds like an very smart move by the Roosters and a bit of a bargain considering his talent.

Personally I think Manu is an absolute weapon in attack and defence and seems to have his head on straight (possible captain material?). I would love to see the Eels make a big move for Manu before he signs.

He’s already won two premierships so he should be in a mindset of chasing money and could be lured to set himself up for the future.

The carrot Eels should offer him is a move to fullback (I heard he played there in the younger grades and killed it), we can push Gutho to left centre, not resigning Jennings. This gives Manu the ability to earn top money in a key position, we get a premium player in a key position and offer him around $7-800k to compete with the Roosters... the price is a ballpark obvs, but it’s got to be competitive or he won’t leave the Roosters.

Thoughts?

  • Mate you are an idiot, fullstop....

play him at centre and thats it

i like my captain king gutho being in the spine and at fullback where his brains can dictate our team.... Manu is a great talent and wouldve been great in the younger teams but in first grade it takes more then just talent to be a great fullback... you need brains and that’s something you and Manu dont have .... no thanks...

    • Hey genius, it’s not Gutho’s brains that got him the captaincy, it’s his effort on and off the field.

  • Not a bad idea.

    • I would have agreed completely with you last year Slugg, but we have made a couple of good signings recently in Blake and RCG. We put in a decent effort this year on the ladder, so I don’t think our reputation is as bad as it once was (hopefully).

        • Good point, and I mostly agree, but another successful year could always change this.

          • Yes excellent observation, that's just where we are right now.

  • Manu will make a great fullback that's his ceiling he should move clubs and get that. Just not at the eels. As a centre we should to replace Jennings after next year tho but don't see it happening.

    • Well he has already won two premierships so his manager should be in his ear to start earning the coin he deserves. If we could get a strike player like him and the big front rower we all know we lack, we could give the top teams a bit of a nudge.

  • No, I think he's a great talent, but we already a world class right centre in Waqa Blake and there is no way I'm changing our spine

    • Mitchell looked more engaged to me during the Test the other night. I don't rate Meninga too highly as a coach but he does have the ability to bring a side together so maybe that was why Mitchell was more switched on.

Could BA keep Mitchell more happy than Robinson has managed to since Origin 1?
