Should we rest players this week?

Teams often rest players in the last weekHowever, this could cause a delay getting back up to speed - like having a byeIf we have second tier cap space, why not give some players with a few niggles a rest and give the young guns a taste of first grade this week. It will be a difficult game to win anyway so we are not risking a likely win

  • Not a chance. We need to keep winning to give ourselves a chance for a decent run into the semifinals.
  • No, every game is a semi from here first to try and grab a top 4 spot and then the finals proper.
  • The Eels can't afford to rest any players! The Storm can and are probably the only team that can afford it given their position!
  • our current spine has had about 3 games with all of them fit, they need to build on their combinations

  • Wasn't this just discussed in the other blog?
  • Let's just start another blog for the sake of it..
  • Hell no, we have to give ourselves every chance at a top 4 spot!

  • Not a chance. We're equal fourth, now is not the time to be resting players. Most guys will be carrying niggles and the like. If we were four points clear in the top four then yeh we'd probably be resting players but only Melbourne have opted to rest players and that's because they've won the minor premiership 3 weeks from the end of the season.

  • I reckon we should just give the whole team the weekend off and not fly to Brisbane . It'd be a trifecta ,

1- The players get a rest

2 - it'd be funny to see Brisbane turn up to the ground and we don't show

2- the players get to show that evil NRL what happens when the players don't get a few million more .
    • Sounds like a good idea to me

Reckon we would still get penalised if Brisbane drops the ball

"It's not so much the result in trials, but what you did to get there. Parra showed that they are up for a challenge, especially coming from behind to win. That's what would excite Ryles at the moment. Not winning trial games, not even winning the…"

"I reckon when Ryles signed TDS last year he didn't think that Smith had what it takes to be a topline dummy half. It would be interesting to see what his thoughts are now, as Smith has come on in leaps and bounds. I think Parra definitely is better…"

"Trial form means nothing but it certainly doesn't hurt to win either. I mean that's precisely what both teams are trying to do in a trial match. Winning is infectious. "

It doesn't change the better part of the last three years, but we won the 2026 Witzer Pre-season Challenge on the back of some encouraging trial form.
