Should we have tried for a swap with RCG & Ben Hunt

Ben Hunt is free to negotiate on Nov 1 and it sound like Saints are OK with him leaving.

Could/should we have tried to orchestrate a swap between them.

He could definitely place hooker for us and is a very handy back up half if Moses or Brown got injured next year.

Not sure what dollars he would be looking for but surely couldn't be much more the what RCG was on.

He is 34 but a 2 year with 3rd year club option could have worked IMO

  • Yep, massive missed opportunity if we knew Reg was going no matter what!

    • Especially if he ends up at saints EE2

      • That will just rub further salt into the wound! Truthfully, nothing surprises me with this Club any more!

  • He is 35 when next season starts.  2 or 3 year contracts surely you jest.

    • I get it Blue Eel but we currently do not have a back up half or an adequate hooker.

Still good enough to make SOO

BTW Cherry Evans is 36 at the start of next season

      • Look he has been a SOO and Australian stalwart for sure. But age catches up with the best. He has been at St George for around 6 or 7 years now, and led them to 1 finals appearance in that time.

He is only getting older. Next year will be his 16th year in 1st grade. Surely we must be looking towards our future and building a roster with some speedy players in their 20's

        • Fair enough

I'm really just looking for a dummy half option and the bonus of him being able to cover in the halves may have been the difference between 15th and the top 8 this year but I do get your point about his age.

      • Good  enough to make SOO with a good team around him. Did he get Saints to the play off this year?

  • Nope can't see how this would work, Hunt is likely to head to the gold coast or Wayne Bennett could convince him to sign with the bunnies

    • Mick, can't see how it could work? Really? We sign and orgiin level hooker who can also play 7 or 6. A player who can guide hands. Let go of Lussick. We have a quality hooker and a back up half or 5/8 and a leader. Are you for real?
