The channel 9news and NRL 360  seem to be intimating we should resign coach ans players now. We ran last last year. However our first 4 matches indicate we could become a real threat in the competition. Last weeks win over the Sharks was one of our best in the last 5 years.

If we had a crystalball we could make a decision right now.

What would you do if we got flogged by the Raiders and lost narrowly to Tigers. I dont thinkj that will happen. We have seen too many times when coaches and players have been signed for too long and for too many years.

We sould wait until at least round 7.

I would resign Brad Arthur for 1 year at a time depending on results.

Clint Gutherson and Mitchell Moses for 3 years for their true worth. Not overs but not unders.

Some of the others including Mkchael Jennings and Brad Takarangi for 1 year and review it at the end of that year but at their true vale.

Players like Kane Evans and Tim Mannah at leats for another year.

Penne Terrepo for 2 years.

Daniel Alvaro for 3 years.

Hope we don't get pressuered into rushing in too soon and the players and coach get paid their true value,no more and no less.

If another club wishes to pay overs, then see you later.

    • Questions for you Frankie. Let's say after 10 weeks we are 8-2. Would you re-sign BA or not?

What would you wait for to re-sign him or would you not re-sign him at all?

If not, who would you go for as head coach?

        • Thanks for your response. i may not agree with everything but I respect your points and opinion. You have validity in your arguements.

        • If TPAs would help us sign players cheaper they would be illegal. TPAs aren't allowed to be used as an inducement to play for a particular club. That's the rules. It's why the Roosters only had $200k in legal TPAs last year.

  • If you can't see that we now have the right people in the right place, right here and right now to take us forward then you are blind. I'm not saying go stupid with paying whoever whatever, but from top to bottom we are looking great and should be doing what we can and using whatever reasonable means to keep everyone in place.

  • Actually that was pretty disgusting reporting by hooper on 360, seriously what where they expecting when asking every player about contracts .. then he spins it saying the players are pissed off with their responses which they didn't say and look pissed..

anyway prefer this media angle then the eels are genuine deal angle media playing up after first 2 wins as we always up for a loss when the media hype us up like that

  • Now, with the good start and signs looking good at this stage, is the right time to START negotiations. It would have been foolish of the club to have signed off contract players at this early stage, if anything the delay has benifited the players as they have been able to show what they are capable of, no one deserved to be re-signed off the back of last season. All the noise is coming from outside the club, none from within. The club is in a pretty good position to keep every player they want to keep, it's other clubs that will have to pay overs to get any of them and if that happens, so be it, as long as we are not over paying.

As for the coach if we manage to win our next two then that desicion can be fast tracked, if not then stick to the original plan of waiting to mid season.

  • Arnt the media putting the pressure on the club to start signing everyone!  I actually believe we are seeing a more mature stance from the club in that in days past, our club would have panicked and bent on the sway of public opinion - instead they have remained stoic and most importantly QUIET on the subject.  I’m sure the club has everything under control from the resigning of Gutho to BAs contract.

Whilst everyone is gushing about Gutho people have to remember hes not and probably won’t play SOO - so any talk of a million a year is probably way off the mark.  He does bring an amazing vibe to the team and should be rewarded appropriately.

I have faith that now the management team has taken over the recruitment from BA ( thank goodness) we are on the right track.

    • About $700k is what Gutho is worth in my opinion.

      • As the captain and the ultimate team man - yeah I reckon that’s about right.

"Well in theory that maybe right but in real terms he is locked into his old contract if he returns to the NRL."

"Zac Lomax has effectively got out of his very under market value 4 year contract he signed. If he was to come back to the NRL he'd be on a lot more coin than if he'd stayed in his original contract with us. Win for Lomax whatever he does"
