Should the Eels chase John Morris

If the sharks are going to throw John Morris on the scrap heap, Parra should go hard to get him as our main assistant coach. His record over the last 2 years has been great (considering his playing roster), he has ties to the Eels from his playing days and the players seem to love him. I think the Sharks are making a mistake and the good clubs capitalize on those opportunities. Arthur needs to surrond himself with potential first grade coaches (I know this has been a topic of conversation and a weakness imo) like the really strong clubs do. Hopefully Arthur and the Eels have just been waiting for the right person to come onto their radar and I think Morris would be perfect.

  • Agreed. That's what I was thinking when I heard the news and I think he will fit in well into Parra's systems. I'm sure BA and the club are at least considering it.

  • Agreed Scott. BA needs to go very close to winning the premiership this year or he may be moved on. A quality assistant would go a long way to helping achieve it.

  • Why the sharks would sack one bloke who had bugger all head coaching experience to hire another bloke with no head coaching experience with the support of a bloke who is a failed bum coach is baffling .  Look at the examples of blokes thrown in straight from assistant to head coach and how long it takes them to find their feet . Very rarely do they slot straight into success .

The club needs to be solid with well oiled cogs for it to work.

    • Absolutely!! Reckon he is doing a good job too with the cap broken as it was left.

Maybe on the plus though they’ll be some good pick up esp Rudolph!!

  • Can anyone tell me if we have an 'assistant coach' atm? I know Kidwell is defence coach and joey Grima is development/pathways (something along these lines) coach but I honestly couldn't name our assistant coach like I can at several other clubs.

    • Kidwell and Steve Murphy

Neither will be 1st grade coach's at any point and I feel that's the problem we need coach's who could step I'm or be poached its a common perception amongst most that BA doesn't what assistants that could be a threat.

I like the idea of an assistant who has had a taste of being head coach a good example is Andrew McFadden since he joined the raiders after his time as the warriors coach he has been credited by alot of raiders players as being a big part of the resurgence and is most likely the next in line should Stuart leave

      • Cheers Offside. I beleive Murphy has been with us since maybe around the time Arthur started but I have never heard his name being thrown up as a candidate for another club. Probably a really good guy but doesn't seem to be rated too highly amongst the league community.

Arthur showed some ruthlessness when he cleared the playing decks last year and I think it's time he did the same with his coaching staff.

        • Agreed

For no other reason then to bring in different voices to the playing group and the coaching staff

        • I don't think he will do it. As has been mentioned here, he woouldn't bring in guys who he thought would be a threat to his position. Kidwell and Murphy are not.
