Should French be on Jennings outside?

One word...SpeedMore words...is Jennings lack of passing because his outside man does not keep upSemi is fast but does not have the acceleration of Jennings or French

  • Nah, I'd been waiting to see French and takka team up and it finally happened last week but we had Robson feeding them the ball.
  • No.

You watch a different game to me Wile.  Jennings has lost a lot of pace over the past several years and is nowhere near as quick as he was in his very early 20's.  On a number of occasions this year Jennings could not keep up with Semi and looked slowish over that 40+ metre mark when in the clear.

Jennings is still quick over 20-30 metres but after that he gets stuck in third gear and does not have that top end speed of French, Semi or Hayne.  Jennings was very quick over the 100 when he was young (high 10 seconds over 100) but he has lost that pace from any number of reasons.

French needs to be outside a ball playing centre such as Taka whose first thought is how can I best set up the player outside me.  Whereas Jennings mindset is in reverse to Taka.

    • I agree, Taka's slower pace will allow French's acceleration to come into play by forcing defenders to step up a gear to cover him when the pass comes.
    • Your probably right Big Dave
No evidence for my suggestion - just speculating
  • Guys like Gutherson and Taka (both ball playing centres) is what French needs inside him.  If we sign Hayne and Hayne plays fullback it will mean that French will score heaps of tries as Hayne can ball play, throw that long cut out pass and most importantly will suck the outside defenders in leaving more room for French.  We will have the best back three if Hayne is at fullback with Semi on the left and French on the right.

  • I say yes, just because Jennings is more of a line running centre and a speedster like French would benefit more following a sweeping play, also I'd love to have a taka semi combo, not sure if there would be a stronger pairing in the conp
    • Would be interesting to see how they teamed up (Jennings and French)
Wonder if Taka and Semi would work on the right

Also be interesting to see how Jennings and French went defending together
  • No

  • I'll say it again...

    1. Gutherson

    2. Semi

    3. Taka

    4. Hayne

    5. Jennings

    6. Norman

    7. French

Name a better backline than that?

    • 1 Hayne
      2 Semi
      3 Taka
      4 Jenko
      5 French
      6 Norman
      7?
