Now, I enjoy a good ride, but I like to use quiet back streets and dedicated cycle ways,of which there are many. With the new 1 metre rule it is only a matter of time before some nutter totally loses his rag and runs over ,or beats the crap out of some, selfish lycra wearing prick, who has caused a 500 metre long car crawl  behind him on a narrow ,winding, steep , incline.I'm referring  to roads in National parks, such as the road to Audley,or the road to West Head and Akuna Bay.These roads are meant to be pleasant drives.Instead you are doing 10 km/h because some idiot enjoys chapping his nuts, whilst wearing loud lycra.

On Wallgrove Rd,for example, there is an adjacent cycleway that runs for many kms. Instead , during peak hour, there are swarms of road rats, not using the cycleway, but Wallgrove Rd instead, dodging semis, trucks ,B-Doubles and many very angry motorists.

I feel that for the cyclists' safety, unless there is a wide shoulder,or a cycle lane, cyclists should stay the f*ck off these roads.

    • Correct cycling etiquette is to call out "passing" when a cyclist comes up on someone. That said, I haven't seen a bell on a bike for 20 years even though I thing Baird introduced legislation to make them compulsory. I think legislation is very nanny state but yelling "passing" should cover most situations. I agree with Tom that the 1 metre rule is ridiculous and for safety sake bikes should have to stay in single file unless there is a wide shoulder, then 2 abreast maximum

  • Well said, they should be banned from plenty of roads.

  • I'm a cyclist, I do about 9000 k's a year. I wear lycra (it's padding) but wear mountain bike shorts over the top. If I went out in public with just lycra covering my gear there would be women squirting all over the joint.

Anyways, I do practically all my riding on bike paths and shared pathways - such as the M7 bike path - which is 37k's long. I only ever ride on roads that have a breakdown lane where I can safely ride. There is NEVER a situation where I have to hold up traffic in a lane usually used for vehicles.

Any cyclist that chooses to disrupt traffic is, to put it simply, a f*cking wanker and d*ckhead. As far as i'm concerned they have no one to blame but themselves should they happen to get mowed down. Basically they are just petulant arseholes who need a smack in the mouth.

There's a zillion bike paths around this great city (and suburbs). No one needs to be holding up traffic.

    • Kramerica I thought so highly of you, but lycra, you are persona non-grata! lol

    • Well said Kram. That M7 cycleway is magnificent. There are trails around Moonrise Lookout and The Equestrian Centre that are fantastic. The number of near misses I've seen on Wallgrove Rd,usually by older riders in their 40s (of course in lycra,it must be a fetish) when the cycleway is 10 metres to the rider's left,is staggering.I had to use Vulcan-like levels of self-control one dark night when a geriatric in lycra, with no night-lights or reflectors rode off the footpath onto busy Concord Rd,and gave me the finger. The sense of entitlement of some riders is beyond belief.I ended up yelling at the old fool to grow up,get some lights and buy a car,the old tight-arse.SERENITY NOW !

Seriously, everyone is responsible for their own safety,if you are being a dope, karma will bite you in the a*se.Motorbike riders were leathers and full face helmets at least.Lycra provides f*ck-all protection from gravel rash and cycling helmets wear YOU for protection in any accident.

    • We need more like u mate i come down the m1/f3 4 times a week at least once a week i get stuck behind a cyclist either on the pacific h'way or lane cove road quite often you just cant pass them
  • Hahaha! Classic!

  • They should all have numberplates...except Kram :)

What about the dopes that hold up the traffic we cop a red light and they weave their way to the top of the grid and have to frckn well do it all over again on the green...this happened on our way to Bobbin Head ten file wide Rd cyclist nightmare. Hope they pay the $12 to enter also!

  • sorry Kram, if you wanna ride on the road, you pay mate!

  • Thank god I ate before viewing that.
