- Shaun lane
I just wanted to write about how does Shaun lane never get called out.
1.His to slow
2.His past his prime
3.Defense isn't were it should be
4.Gets folded every run
5.Never competes on anything
We need to start calling out all the players like this especially Wiremu Greg who's pure lazy same with matterson.Honestly idk how him staying for 2026 is a win he just looks like he dosent wanna play footy.
I just had to write this cause it's honestly made me fed up.

💯 agree. No effort in defence.
5 other clubs realised he wasn't worth it. Why Eels stick by him in first grade is beyond comprehension.
I'm not going to make any excuses for his form last year, but his performance in the 2022 Prelim suggest otherwise. 2023 he was largely injured.
I'm hoping Ryles can get the best out of him because I do think he has value as a bench forward because he can fill both front and second row positions. But, I think his position now is bench prop because his mobility isn't quite what it was.
His defence is okay and can generally wrap and wrestle forwards to the ground with ease.
I also don't think he was coached well in attack and was constantly taking hospital passes inches from the line. Even I hated his handling skills last year. I would be using his height advantage a lot more with offloads or aerial attacks.
I wouldn't write Lane off just yet. Let's see what Ryles and his coaching staff can do before putting a line through his future at the Eels.
He is one of the most called out players on all the forums.
His last chance is making it as a bench middle.
Maybe the people that count see something we don't.
Let's see how he goes, if he doesn't then he will be in the two's.
Grieg is not a first grader and will be nothing but a back up, if that.
Matterson is another proposition all to gether, he may have an HIA problem but as a fit working player he could be one of our best. I suspect that the author has no understanding of what he can offer. A certain starter in the 17. Potenially one of our best....if he fires then we have something special. A key person in us making what I am looking at as a player to take us all the way.
Its a 30 player squad, some will make it other's won't. Let's not piss on what we have and what we hope to achieve.
Matterson and Cartwright should be our 2nd rowers. Cartwright had an awesome season last year, I hope he gets even better with some good coaching. I love how mobile and skillful he is, last year he showed us what he's capable of in defence.
He never fully recovered from 2023 injury plagued season. Heading into 2025 where he will 31, he at least is reliable in the sense that other than 2023 he has been reletively good injury wise. However, his 2024 season was average at best. I felt he finished the season not too bad as he got a rocket up the arse noticing Ryles wont muck around sending players on their way or even dropping them.
I have said it before and will say it again, a game v Souths at Commbank i blasted the bloke as his body language sucked and was walking from marker towards Cook when he went for a scoot. Then following points, he walked back to halfway kick-off with hands on hips. Same game got upstaged, all the forwards did, by Charlie Guymer with pure effort and determination. He said on bloke in bar podcast he will play wherever Ryles needs him, preferably on an edge but will do what Ryles needs. TCT are split with Forty saying he will miss a 17 spot while Sixties thinks he will find a spot.
He is the enigma of the squad, if he gets to form he is an asset. Unlike say Matterson who i feel gets a lot of unwarranted crap on here as he is at worst most weeks a 7/10, i would take that from a bench player.
We've been fed up for 2 years ( most of us)
it's beyond anyone's comprehension but I'm hoping that ryles will not stand for any of his lazy play and he will be demoted promptly should he not have a new " psyche" occurring in 2025
I've never been so irritated hearing the hypocritical tripe that has come out of his mouth in every interview regarding " effort" , and at times he has come off as downright " arrogant " and " smarmy " rolling his eyes and being haughty at interviewers questions
I think very few supporters are his fans anymore tbh
i mean I wanted him gone this off-season. But he's still here. Maybe Ryles can get something out of him? We'll see.
But yeah I don't think I've been as annoyed by a player last 12 months more than Lane, maybe Sivo.
So did the club apparently, but no bites. Another example of options biting us in the arse as if he has a poor 2025 and Ryles does not see him fitting into his culture we have to keep him on decent money for another season.
I mean the club and fans can wish him gone as much as they want but he has a contract and is obligated to honour it as he pleases as he seems to be doing so.
His disinterest has been very clear for the last two seasons . We all know he is doing a psych degree and many have said his extra community work and podcasting has been around this and maybe that's where his heart lies 🤷♀️
the fact remains that he seemingly was never read the riot act from BA due to his relaxed attitude or a rocket put up his arse
he has kept being a media spokesperson when he has clearly not demonstrated what he keeps bleeting on about to all and sundry 🤔🤨
he shouldn't be doing interviews imo at all in regards to games until he pulls his friggin finger out
