An Eel for 10 seasons, winner of 4 Premierships and an integral part of the most lethal backline in the history of modern Rugby League.
Represented NSW 8 times and pulled on the Green and Gold another 4 times.
Where is he now? Steve is a proud Yuin man, and has spent over two decades saving lives as a drug and alcohol counsellor. As of February 2023 Steve heads up the Aboriginal Health Service at Gosford Hospital.
He's not only a servant for Rugby League but also humanity. Who ever has had the honor to meet him has said he the most friendly, honest and down to earth bloke you could ever meet.
I salute you Steve. It was great watching you lead our boys out against the bunnies. I'm sure your aura helped us play one of our best games in the last 5 years.

Yes shame . He walked out right past the fox tv staff when Ella proudly led the Eels on to Allianz field Friday night.

I guess the media people working for Fox are too young to remember the great players back to the eighty's and before . So they concentrate on headlines for more recent players ( indigenous or not unless they are John Sattler ) .
Channel 9 were not much better. They did mention Steve Ella as he walked out, but the commentators were too busy falling over themselves about Souths.

The Great Steve Ella,one of the reasons I love Parra so much.Always in the back ground but lead from the front.Brave as they come and never complained.Highly underrated by most Rugby League Fans other than Parra .You are an Immortal in my eyes Steve,on and off the Field.Hope your there every year leading the Boys out from now on.
