SG Ball Rd7 Highlights

https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2023/03/20/une-sg-ball-cup-highlights--round-seven/

Eels are at the 8:35 min mark

Ethan Sanders is 6

Matt Arthur is 9

Do not know how much can tell from highlights but both Ethan and Matt look promising. Ethan looks in control and has a good skill set for his level.

Matt Arthur seems nippy and provides good service.

Just thought I would look given the issues with Moses's contract. I like Moses and we are stuffed without him. But I would not be blocking off Ethan Sanders by giving Moses a lengthy contract - unless he wins us a premiership  - give hime 3 years plus an option for two more that is only activated if we win a premiership.

BTW I thought JA was looking a lot better this year. Sixties seems to think I am a JA basher because I said JA taking the ball to the line is new. But it was actually a compliment. Thi kid is improving and I hope he makes it. My criticisms of JA was solely that he should not have been selected for first grade last year, except when Moses was out. For these games he did very well and should beproud of what he did. BA is the problem not JA.

  • Good post Wile; we have some decent players coming through but need to keep the nucleus - so many clubs will be looking but our R and R have to be on the ball here.
both guys you mentioned are v good

  • It's just time there's too much instant gratification rubbish that floats around here. You have to understand that these halves are probably 4-5 seasons away from seeing what they really are.

Patience will pay dividends just like DB at 21 yrs of age the moron brigade here have the pitch forks out.DBs best is still 3 yrs away the more and more you put on his plate with experience the better he'll be much the same with these young guys coming through.

Its probably also why the club doesn't want to lock Moses for 5 years if they think they have got a replacement possibly in 3 yrs tying that extra year up in Moses potentially could cost losing Sanders if he's there next guy.

    • DB may have been brought into first grade too early. He could have benefited from the responsibility of being the dominant half in reserve grade for a year

      • You can thank Kieran Foran (mental) and Corey Norman  (party-party-party) for that. The other option would have been Will Smith. Now he may wet the panties of a certain fan in the forum but couldn't wet our collective panties.

We had to blood him because the Warriors were keeping a very close eye if we didn't give him the chance.

        • I am not criticising the decision even in hindsight. But just think it has contributed to DB being a bit of a strategy and playmaker passenger. He gives 100% as a soldier but very little responsibility if that makes sense. Just seems like his mind was elsewhere all week and he thinks all he has to do is turn up to training and give 110% in the matches. Could be comletely wrong but that is the impression he gives me

          • You do have a point. He doesn't seem to care for leadership. He runs his own show, walks to his own beat. A bit like Brett Kenny. He needs to be more like Brett Kenny though and pull tries out of his own arse out of the blue to be truly worth his coin. You're either a leader or not. You can't train for it. He needs to be more lethal with his running. If BK found any broken play you knew he'd take advantage of the chaos. I know it's a lot to look up to but that's what he needs to do. Win games using individual brilliance.

      • Quiet possibly but this is the penalty you face when behind the scenes are broken.Very few guys are ready to go in there teens let alone early 20s.

Basically the week to week grind gets you and if handled incorrectly shortens your career. The best thing they did with DB was when he got hurt they didn't rush him back.He was out something like 12 weeks and if I remember correctly they didn't give him a time frame or pressure to get back. That's good management of a young up n comer.

  • Some very weak/defence in the match.

Matt Arthur's service looks as slow as his brothers.

    • The first two were slow but after that there was some better ones and given the level I thought it was good

    • They played well  against a very terrible manly side . No where to be seen against Canberra 2 weeks ago . A lot better options at dummy half out there go recruit asap .

This looks like another "just in case" selection and I doubt Talagi will get many minutes if any."
