Set Plays Non Existent

I watched the souths game today and couldnt help but notice how well they execute the set plays. We really have 1 set play we deploy with sandow running around the back and giving it to the fullback (worked well with hayne executing). Our plays are predictable and if we continue with them, we will get pumped by Souths. I would also like to see more support play, especially from Hoppa. We play best when we offload and that has died in the ass since kearney and stuart. If you remember the dream run with taylor and DA as coach we were offloading machines and that produced results

  • 100% agree we are 1 dimensional in attack
  • Theres a great reason for it. Souths have had the same spine and squad for a few years, we have a new fullback and Peats only played 10ish games for us last yr. They have perfected the plays that they can now add variations, we havent. And they have players like Walker and Johnston they can bring infield, Semi is the only player we could do so with. Robinson isnt big enough to hit the line and go through. Aside from set plays, off taps they have so many players in motion, all good sides do. We haven't had a team together for near long enough that everyones knows where to be and when. It takes time and a lot of practice. Especially with our injuries its very hard to have great shape and fluidity in our shapes. It will happen over time. We have to master the basic plays before adding variety. That step is usually one that takes you from a top 8 team to a premiership contender. Anywhere on the field, Souths can run a play and adapt to whose where on the field and make it work.
  • Also, "offloads" isnt a gameplan that wins grand finals. It can work but its very lucky if it does. Warriors play it and they havent had great success. Those two runs we had in 06/09 were just good luck and in form players. 2005/07 we actually played better footy and made the finals/prelim
    • Totally agree king but we need to start these plays to get them right towards the back end of the season, but i do hear you....we need to get the basics right
