Semi's turning into a fullback

Semi's support play has evolved beyond that of a winger. His tries tonight should have been scored by our fullback, but he came in from his wing and looked for the ball and injected himself into the position to score. I would not be surprised at all if he ends becoming a fullback sometime in the future. His defence is also improving and he's safe under the high ball. I'm not necessarily saying he should become our fullback, but I think he has the potential. If we have to pay him big money to keep him, moving him to fullback would justify the contract.

  • Yep and to think the experts on this site didn't even want to see him at centre.
  • I would be absolutely devastated if we lost Semi, he's growing into a brilliant player. He's a match winner and someone who brings people to the games. He's a joy to watch....we need to find a way to keep him at the club.
  • Semi plays several positions.A few times I am sure I saw Jennings on the wing.

Semi may start on the wing but I think I saw him play centre, second row and full back throughout the game

  • I mentioned Semi should be used as a fullback a year ago. Kind of like French being groomed to be in the halves. But what do I know?
  • Yep I see him at fullback next year if not earlier.

  • You probably can't justify the $500k+ for a winger, but you can for a fullback. Brad Arthur is using him so intelligently, by letting him drift around the park, and it means we're getting much more value out of him than you would for your typical winger. Just brilliant stuff.

    • The hybrid play we put him through tonight was superb. Just saying as well, if there was ever a winger you would consider breaking the bank for it would be Semi.

    • Why can't wingers be paid 500k? These days wingers are much more involved. If a player can average a try a game, take hit ups to relieve the forwards, run 200m, is safe under the high ball and saves some tries. Regardless if wing, centre or fullback we should pay him that.
    • If rugby come calling trying to get Semi to change maybe marquee player fund could be used to top up his pay.

Isn't this what it is for, really, he is worth $500k but you cannot justify that for a winger, even one as good as he is. The best winger in comp by a country mile.

  • Foran made the point after the game that semi is a very smart footy player and he's learnt so much over a short period if time. I can't believe how much the game has changed to the point where a winger is one if the most crucial positions on the field. They need to be able to come up with spectacular finishes and spectacular try saving tackles. Those plays are the reasons for winning it losing games. Gone are the Ross Conlons and Chooky Herrons of the game that you could hide on the wing for their goal kicking
