Semi in the centres?

Putting all the drama of this year aside Semi has been without doubt one of the highlights. But apart from his barn storming runs, I've been impressed with his passing game & his defence...that try saver in the dying minutes a cracker.

So my question is if Taka is struggling could Semi be ready for a more permanent move to the centres where he has already played many minutes when Taka has been injured?

Possible 3/4 line depending on the cap (surely with Robinson gone & if Taka follows there has been some more allowance):

2. Faraimo

3. Hoppa

4. Semi

5. Folau/Morgan...Morgan's main concern is his defence has been woeful since coming back.

  • Semi would still drop back for kick returns right?

  • Do people see the same game as me, Morgan has been solid in D, don't know where this myth comes from. Folau is slow and lazy, would be better suited to the forwards but needs to be toughened up first!

    • Agree. Imagine having Sandow defending inside you. God if you don't know what he is doing in attack you're not going to know what he is going to do in defence.

  • All hail semi !!!
Considering he has only been playing league for a few years ....
I can't believe his progress. I reckon he would be an excellent centre. Great speed and evasion. Great offload and vision.
Put a speedster like Jake Mamo outside of him and we would fly.
  • This idea came up last week and I mentioned for me it came down to whether he could deliver a quick pass. To me that's essential as a modern-day centre. But I'll also say that the way we play wing is just as important as many position in the backline. Indeed the majority of the work inside is simply about drawing in players to create space on the wing. Semi gets a lot of one-on-one opportunities on the wing that I'm not sure he'd get as a centre. I know its traditionally that centre is more important that wing but the way we play (and there are other teams that play with similar structures like the Warriors) don't underestimate the value of a great winger.

    • I wouldn't want to weaken one position to strengthen another. I'd ask this, would Semi be a better centre than he is a winger?
    • That's true but his progress has been nothing short of remarkable. Last night he did so much grunt work , whenever we needed someone - there he was.
I reckon he could develop a good long pass just like he has suddenly developed an off load.
So very strong and fast . At the moment the best winger in the competition but could be the best centre as well.
  • I would say ..yes.
  • A better fullback ;)
    • You know what not such a silly idea.

The opposition would have nightmares with semi carting the ball back every set. You want your most dangerous player with the ball in his hands most often.
