Segeyaro would have been a great backup

Just read that Segeyaro is getting a train and trial run at Manly which is great. He was a solid player and pretty dynamic at creating, so I'm glad to see he's getting one last crack and didn't just give up or fade away. We all know he had his troubles, but this shows me he has a love for the game and wants to end his career on a positive note.

It puzzles me why BA didn't look at Seggy as an opportunity?

  1. He's a player in a position we need a backup for, Hooker, and a dynamic 14 coming off the bench.
  2. He's a tough-as-nails BA type of footy player.
  3. BA has a great track record with players that need a little love and guidance.

I think he would have been an excellent acquisition, and could definitely use him on the bench. Looks like a missed opportunity to me.

  • No, no, no - of questionable character and hasn't been any good for 8 years or so.

    • Questionable character = Absolutely
We might never have had Ma'u or Wicks if we didn't give questionable characters a second chance.

    • Playing lock at Cronulla. He's playing well, but he's getting paid decently as well. No value there.

  • Because we are a development club and looking to promote from within wherever possible.

  • Would have been a great pickup. All for developing juniors, but it's a huge risk to throw a junior in to what could be a full season job given Josh Hodgson's injury status and likelihood of reinjuring himself. Can't believe we didn't resign Mahoney

  • Agree! BA is the coach that has succeeded with out of favour players, he would have been good for Segeyaro and Segeyaro would have been good for us. However was never going to happen, isn't there a MA in the pipeline playing 9.

  • Beyond me how we let reed go still

    • Jack  just talking about it gets up my nostrils. Someone (I think it was the beautiful man we know as Grunta) suggested it's related to something more personal; not just the money. Like you, something smells suss. Maybe, the entire truth will be revealed in time. Maybe not. Let's just hope there's some silver lining in all this.

    • Same, but he's gone to the Dogs so we need to look ahead. It's time to let go...
