Segeyaro

https://www.zerotackle.com/the-curious-case-of-james-segeyaro-39874/

James Segeyaro, he’s electric out of dummy half, he hits hard, and he’s as deceptive as they come. Yet somehow, the incumbent Papua New Guinearake and former Dally M Hooker of the Year is without a contract for the 2019 season. But why?

Finally, Parrramatta are desperate for a quality hooker. Bit-part players Kaysa PritchardCameron KingReed Mahoney and Will Smith all spent time at hooker for the Eels in 2018, but they lacked star power from dummy-half. Segeyaro would add spark to a side coming off a last placed finish, and give them a much needed attacking boost.

While some believe that Parramatta wouldn’t sign Segeyaro while Corey Norman was at the club (due to the two being caught up in off-field indiscretions together), the latter’s move to St George Illawarra could potentially open the door for the Kumuls hooker to sign with Parramatta.

I know a lot has already been discussed about this but the fact is Mahoney alone is not going to carry the Eels & Pritchard is not a first grader (failed every trime.. that is when isn't injured in the first 5 min).

Agree with the article Eels have to bite the bullet & put an offer to Segeyaro.

  • Mahoney will play 80mins this year and will go up another level.

I don't think Seggy will be happy playing Wenty waiting for an injury.

Our money would be better spent on a centre and another prop.

    • Realistically Pops, can we rely on any player to stay fit and healthy all season?

As for Sege, I would have to say no for the simple reason how many minutes did he play when selected last season?  From what I recall with him and only watching Sharks on TV, he was basically playing the same minutes as Kaysa did prior to 2017, usually around 10-15 minutes in the back end of the second half.

Currently all the money is on Mahoney as the starting and primary 9, having Kaysa and then Stone as backups should serve us well enough.

        • Pops, you killed the reply by stating sense and reality when you mention Ray Price.  How many players before and after him were so drained after a game that they had to lay down on the paddock to have enough energy/strength to then go to the dressing room.

When we talk of 80 minute players he comes out on top, same speed, determination for the whole time, how he's still breathing is beyond me.

You along with others and myself have been saying that this season is the intermediate one, especially with the amount of players off contract at seasons end, we have a total new setup in training and the methods, the inclusion of so many young players in the main squad and training days has an eye beyond this year, I don't see us as likely winning the comp but I do see us closer to the 8 than to the spoon, the reasoning is what I am gleaning from reports is that we have youth with zeal that can take over when one of the regulars fails or gets injured, players that we will see more of next year in the NRL squad.

While we cannot depend on Juniors alone, there are enough of them with abilities and size to be the foundations of a strong club going forward.

I personally do not see that we need Sege and if he only plays a few minutes, like I said before how much would he be asking to play with the club? and what real value would he add?

              • Tad, very much an unknown in regard to being able to answer that.  As for the style of play, there were two versions, first half of season and then the 2nd, when the powers finally woke up to the fact their cut backs had been too much. Couple that with injuries and the wick on the bunger was lit.

                  • That's the only answer to the whole thing.

  • We are lacking in the hooker department but i'm not sure Segy is the answer, when was the last time he had a good season?, 3 or 4 years ago. We just got rid of one party animal, why get another one?. it's a no from me but if we sign him then i'll cross my fingers and hope for the best.

      • Totally agree Doc and Pops

  • Segeyaro.....

This bloke has the mental aptitude of Steddy Eddy. Sorry Steddy...

Funny. He is in a similar mould to his good mate Corey.

GREAT when nothing much is on the line.

    An idiot.

As consistent and reliable as a retreaded retread.

    Hot and cold.

A journey man for a reason.

    Hangs with the wrong crowd.

Did I mention he is an idiot..?

    Go James...

  • I would be willing to take a punt on him. If nothing else,  he is a better 14 than Pritchard. Not to mention,  if his attitude and commitment is good, he will easily be our first choice hooker...we are talking about a guy who beat out Cam Smith and Issac Luke for dally M hooker not that long ago.
