Second year syndrome

I know its been mentioned before but geez french was awful tonight. Aside from norman he was probably our worst time.

Defensively he made some really poor decision that lead to the thurston try and was no presence at all with his attack.

It feels like he has overcomplicated his game, too much flash and not enough movement. These little dummies and side steps that he does dont fool anyone, it doesnt help that he cant pass a footy either.

Last year he was just running simple lines off the go forward of players like tep, taka and guth but this year it seems like he has forgotten how to do it.

Hes always been a very poor defender, way to poor a defender and small to play wing and not good enough to play FB.

He offers zero ball promotion or 2nd phase, he is quite a selfish player but that can change with age.

ATM theres no place for him in 1st grade for us and i cant see it changing next year, i think Brad will realise this soon.

If Gutherson doesn't move back to fullback we have no hope of playing finals footy. French either moves back to right wing or has a couple of games off with a rest. His defensive positional play is very, very poor.

Credit where it is due I don't think I have seen French drop a bomb. After that I can't think of an area where he is better than Guth at fb right now. Guth has a better pass, is more likely to make a line break. He is slower than French but Guth makes up for it by having great football instincts he is in the right place all game and he can tackle.

Unfortunately I think a big call needs to be made here, French drops out of side with Gutherson at 1
