If we don't take a punt on them we have no hope of being a top club. I agree it's a gamble but realistically we don't have a club that is synonymous with success so we won't get top shelf players defecting to the Eels like they do at the Broncos or Roosters (or Bulldogs with Gus).
If we want to have sustained success we're going to have to "do a Penrith" and hope that our juniors can do some serious heavy lifting.
No big loss.
He has turned into a pretty good defensive Centre and is good enough to be in our 17.....but you are right he is replaceable.
Enjoy getting coached by a bum in meninga
Exactly. Russell will go backwards under Meninga, who only had success when having world class athletes at his disposal at Origin and National levels.
He's been a good club man whilst he's been here. Can't fault him wanting to lock down a first grade spot on decent coin. I hope he goes well, he's a solid player.
The Bears roster and coach combo look pretty rough so far. It could be a baptism of fire for their NRL debut. Why oh why they gave a job to Meninga of all people astounds me - he's demonstrably a bad coach/figurehead and is far from a smart operator. It's hard to take the NRL seriously with the amount of jobs for the boys that happen.
