scissors, paper, rock!

NRL All Stars Team voting shows Parramatta’s biggest stars at the forefront of a selection nightmare that is going to trouble supporters from all 16 teams.Jarryd Hayne, Nathan Hindmarsh and FuiFui MoiMoi are three of the four most voted for players so far for the Wayne Bennett-coached All Stars – but only one can make the final team. And all three want to play.http://www.nrl.com/newsviews/latestnews/newsarticle/tabid/10874/newsid/57367/all-stars-eels-trio-causing-selection-nightmares/default.aspxTo be completely honest, slater will get fullback position anyways, so if thats so, hayne is a waste on the wing, so i would put in fui or hindy. Probably fui to get some biff into the game.

  • In my opinion, the concept of "fan voting' really dilutes the phrase "ALL STAR" and while I concede that all players chosen are Stars, and therefore, by definition, an ALL STAR team does infact end up being selected - yet I feel somewhat let down that the "Stars" chosen end up being selected in what really amounts to nothing more than glorified popularity contest.

And same goes for our most "popular" Indegenous "STARS" as well

I applaud the NRL for offering to showcase Indigenous culture in a starring role ,centre stage and in a primetime format. And I also applaud the high status in which this game is being marketed and the REAL & TANGIBLE benifits that this event will assist with the continued development of self worth throughout Indigenous communities ALL round Australia

But no disrespect to fans, of which, I am one - but fan voting is just a clandestine popularity contest that restricts the quality of the product on the field and therefore the event itself. In addition, popularity contests resrtict the development of younger stars over the older more established and therefore popular players. For example, I remember being shocked when Inu was selected for NZ after playing only a handful of grade games - if it was left to fans to choose, Inu would never have had that opporttunity - and it is now widely accepted that Inu has the potential to be a genuine superstar.

Imagine a full strength best of the rest ALL STAR versus a full strength Indigenous format. Imagine the importance and the value an Indegenous community would benefit by defeating a best of the rest and truly ALL STAR side. Simply put, it would add profound weight ot the legitimacy of the result to those that need it the most.....and that is the self esteem of all people in Indigenous communities throughout Australia, especially the children.

At first thought you MAY think, no way, a full strength Indigenous Team cannot possibly beat a genuine ALL STAR best of the rest side where both teams are selected by properly sanctioned selection panels...............Remember,nobody except Queenslanders thought that QLD could possibly beat NSW in those early State Of Origin contests as well....and now look at where State Of Origin fits on the Rugby League landscape.

My point - I think the NRL has the Indigenous verses ALL Star concept half right. The underlying benefits are diluted by a restricted and fan based popularity concept approach

But the most important thing is that the NFL has made a start in legitimising Indegenous culture by rightly placing the event on centre stage.. And there in hides the forgotten jewels of Reconcilliation & Legitimacy

Reconcilliation and Legitimacy must go hand in hand - Rugby League can only play it's part in the overall scheme of things and this is why a truly Legitimate Indegenous side must be chosen to have only the very best. Theselection process must be also done by a legitimate selection process to play a legitimate ALL STAR team
    • actually when u said that people would think there is no way a fulls trength indigenous team could beat a geniuine NRL all star team. I am pretty sure that everyone understands the capability of the aboriginal players i mean, our best players are aboriginal, Inglis, Thurston and more..

When i first heard of this match to be honest i thought that indegenous australians would win, and i still think that unless the public votes a very good NRL ALL STARS team.
    • yea very true.
  • lets just make the eels the all stars team so we can have a earlly trial match lol
