Wakefield Trinity have signed Canberra playmaker Sam Williams on a one year deal from 2017.

Williams, who has played for Country Origin, made 10 appearances for Catalans in 2014.

“I am very excited to join Wakefield, and it is a family club with such a close knit community," Williams said.

“I’m looking forward to being able to work with Chris Chester, I have heard good things from Josh Hodgson on his coaching and I am now excited to be a part of it and am looking forward to what the future holds.”

A little bit inside me thought it would be a good 1 year stop gap. Oh well, Gutho for Dally M!

  • This is good news. He is a reserve grader and I wanted him no where near the Eels
    • x2 we have Mitch Cornish who I rate higher the Williams
  • watching him in first grade the last few games of the year he was average. I think he would do well in Super League and good luck to him but not NRL standard at the moment imo.

    • I thought he played his part really well when Austin was injured. I was at the Tigers v Raiders game and he Had a cracker of a game.
  • Yes he's a good second stringplayer. He also carried on like a sook last weekend in the gf, and reminded me of Ricky the way he carried on with his whinging.
  • Does this signing mean we are now looking at Marshall as he apparently has a Sydney club interested in him?

    • I'd take Marshall for $200k to $250k on a one year deal
    • I can't see Marshall working at Parra. Look at how a quality 5/8 like Widdop did beside him. Perhaps it had more to do with Mary or a team that never hit 2nd gear but I do wonder what effect an ad lib player like Benji had on the poor results.
  • We may be able to get him for less as Marshall has been given approval from the NRL to transfer his personal private sponsors from St George to a new team and have them 'not' included in the cap.  Therefore, he could sign for a base (85K) top 25 salary?
