Salary cap enforcement

It’s pretty clear that the current salary cap system has a fair few flaws. Coaches coming in, back-ending deals and ultimately scamming the system in order to get a quick premiership.

Couldn’t the NRL just enforce that contracts have to be paid evenly across the number of years a player has signed for?

This would stop dodgy deals and even out the competition.

  • Coaches carreers depend on results . You can’t blame them for trying to win something straight away .

Publish players total income =  game and cap problems fixed .

    • Exactly wiz
    • But how would we know the amount they publish is the amount they are actually paying?
      • Goose , we would see what’s recorded with the NRL . So if a million dollar player is getting 400k from his club and 600k from a TPA to be a representative of say Holden , fans would be questioning why .  They’d also be able to monitor whether said player is doing $600k worth of work for Holden ( which ultimately is in the TPA rules )

*would we know whether under the table payments are being made ? No but TPAs are the new brown paper bag anyway .

*would it level up the playing field as TPAs would start to self regulate themselves ? 100%

i remember when Inglis was taking money from that government funded Indigenous charity , big money actually to be one of their ambassadors.  When it was revealed they didn’t even have him along side their other ambassadors on their website and nobody was prepared to confirm when or where he did any promotional work at all for the charity , AND THEN we find out the CEO of the charity is an ex Rabbits director , well mate that’s a clean cut example of why all the TPAs should be public knowledge .   Because as fans we can monitor that players are actually doing something to earn the cash and they aren’t just some backhanded club arranged slush fund .

Players will start demanding actual cash in their contracts rather than have to spend their weekends standing outside City Ford giving kids baloons to make up 50% of their wages . It will even up the game .

    • Goose, we wouldn't, but it would be a step in the right direction. Plus if a salary cap drama occurs at a club at least we'd have proof the players knew about it.
  • Salary cap suppose to even out the comp, how funny that, even out the comp. Yet these TP only work for certain teams, Broncos, Roosters, Storm, so I ask. What the use of a salary cap to keep things even when clearly its not!!!
    • I've been watching more afl these days because of the stupid referring. NRL is a lot tighter playing field though. Top 8 is literally decided in afl where in NRL no one knows who's going to win, unless they play us.
  • No, if the club’s get themselves into trouble it’s their problem.

    • You simply cannot place a limit on what players can earn outside the game. The players union will simply not allow it, especially in light of how the NRL pisses away money.

      • Brett , many jobs contract their employees exclusively.  You sign a contract.   Why do people always have this mindset where NRL players are outside normal employee rules ?

Let them strike , I know who will win .
