Salary cap and our key to success

There is a lot of talk on this site about our team needing a hooker and prop for next year but I say no we need to be smart with our money. We got done for rorting the cap last year and how do we as fans really know what money on our cap we can spend for the next couple of years. We have a team called Melbourne who have 1mil to spend on a half next year. We have 3 quality half's and we we don't up date gutho and norman's contracts for next year and beyond we will lose em. I rate Norman when 100% fit the 3rd best half in the comp. We all know how good gutho is and what value he brings to our team. Parra update them now!Props, if woods and klemmer demand 1mil then brown must be worth close to that. I rate brown better than those 2, again parra update his contract now. Brown, gutho and norman will all play origin in the next couple of years. We need to build our team around them and hope we get an even slice of the pie with ref calls if we are to win a premiership soon.We will have to settle with kaysa/smith combo with hooker to stay under the cap. Kaysa hasn't played 50 games yet and his getting better each week. We need to be patient, kaysa will do his job and smith great for 20 min bursts out of dummy half. I think norman/moses/gutho is our spine with kaysa as main hooker.Seriously parra update these 3 contracts now before buying more players for next year!

  • Norman and Gutho are both locked in until the end of the 2019 season - that's 2.5 years away. They both just resigned with us under 6 months ago. They're as "locked up" as we can get!

And remember, signing someone for too long can bite you in the bum just as much as not signing them for long enough.

Norman, Gutho, Moses and French are locked in - that's why the talk is now towards hookers and props.
  • If the club has the cash id sign rein and either graham or klemmer whoever came cheaper or both if parra could afford which i doubt they could unless jennings was moved on.
  • I think you Should stick to your nursing home duties. All you have to say is, parramate you have no idea and I disagree full stop.
  • Parramate2 you should probably do some better research on the contract lengths of said players before posting a blog that is factually incorrect!!!

    • I'm saying we should be uping their contracts for next couple if years if they continue their good form. Poachers are everywhere and a contract dosent seem to mean anything. Wasn't a true or false blog!
  • Ok d#$khead we have open up Pandora's box by paying big coin on moses that still in his early career has yet to justify that kind of money. Sure players like morera seem to be going better in his short stint with our club and moses will only get better but a player like gutho has the potential to be twice the player that moses is and already has the respect of the team and more importantly our current top line player and capt beau Scott. Yes beau Scott ATM is our most valued player just look when he is off the field or not playing (roosters game). Same with brown he is the next Scott and we need him long term. Understand now? Our supporters always want to buy players and that but hey let's hang on to what we got first before paying overs for 1 player aka (foran 1.2mil). We have the crop just need to be patient and not go bonkers after a lost!
  • Gutho has potential to be better than what moses will become
  • Don't get me wrong I'm glad we bought moses but we need to hang onto gutho, Norman and brown before paying big bucks on a klemmer or a top line hooker. Kaysa is on the upwards. That's the point of the blog. Tep is looking so much better in attack from having moses. Tep and moses is like Norman and manu beautiful combo in attack!
  • Our forwards are looking better with moses why pay 1mil for a bloke if we don't need him?
  • While you raise good points, the thing to consider is that the primary players we have and that includes the ones you mention have, as others have said, signed new and/or extended contracts already, When extensions are signed, they also more often than not include incremental rises over the years which covers them more than adequately.

The core players that we have include both young, mid and older age players, and those in the last bracket generally may have shorter contracts, than the others and so on down the list to the single year players who have to perform good enough to warrant an extension by showing they are putting the pressure on those above.

We will see the club looking to the future once we get closer to round 20 onwards and I am sure that most here believe the coach and others in charge have things in and under control.
