Salary Cap 9.1m .....how are we spending it?

This gets done seemingly regularly.....but it is worth thinking about.

Lets get someone to put up the 30 odd contracted players and see how close we get.....'

Moses 850/900, Gutho 800, Junior 650/700, RCG 650/700, Reed 400, NBrown 600, DBrown 600, Matterson 500,BlakeW, 550, Sivo 500 ......that covers the spine and the other higher paid players...

Someone want to come in with the next level....Papapalii, .Niukure, Lane,Cartwright,Kaufusi,Stone Simmonsson,Rein, Opacic etc......say 2 mill

Juniors ...............Dumpster, Penisi, JA, Russel, Nuidiki, Hollis, etc say 1mill....... some development players Rodwell?

Others....Makatoa, Greig, Perham

Now I may have missed a player, but lets see where this gets us and please add anyone that I have missed.

I have about 6mill done on the top line.....assume we have limited TPA's but maybe more than we suspect.

Pretty skinny actually  9.1m and negotiations underway for next year based on the latest TV deal.

10 on the top line

9   on the next

6 on the juniors

Others....4

Not sure how we get there without TPA's of some sort.

  • Did you list RCG as 650 with Penrith pitching in too? with Penrith's amount it adds up to 750k a year but not sure how much they are putting in. But i think all the other salaries are about right give or take a 100k here and there. I thought Sivo was only on 400-450K? 500k is too much if that's the case. And Lane is on around 400k signing a 1.3 mil extension til 2023, Dunster you would believe would be up a bit more on the extension but majority of the juniors would be around 80k-150k all minimum, with exception to maybe Penisini.

    • Your right about RCG LB and it will give us something back to make up for what I imagine to be a hole.....we need every cent is my guess.

      • I don't know how O'Neill got Penrith to accept a further 3 years of pitching it but that was well worked out

      • panthers are paying part of blakes salary also i believe

        • But will it stop this year or next like it did with RCG’s from this year

What about that though, Penrith win a comp paying Blake and RCG and others some money to play against them lol

  • sorry Pops footy is very different for me. Probably a modern culture that is killing something of more value.

    • I think from your perspective that is fine Tad, don't change but you still need to understand the various drivers that make the NRL World go round. Take away the salary cap and it would cause a large rationalisation, which maybe a good thing. i.e. too many Sydney sides......Easts, Souths, St George, Cronulla are too dense. West's and Dogs to rationalise.

Too much history to let it happen but Easts & Souths should be one, St George/Cronulla/Illawarra should be one ie, lose three teams.

BUT in saying this the traditions of Tribalism and Traditions could finish the game, many supporters of the losers in that lot would walk? South Sydney, South Coast, Western Suburbs, Parramatta,Penrith, North Sydney and Newcastle, Canberra is enough for NSW to carry in the comp......that means a rationalisation to names and not districts......I don't like it but it makes sense.

Those areas would then have a rough equalisation of Junior boundaries to equate to the senior representations. We lose the names of Eastern Suburbs, St George, Canterbury and Manly

Sydney becomes the Roosters', South Coast Saints, Western Bulldogs, Parramatta Tigers, Penrith Mountains, North Sydney Eagles and Newcastle Coal Miners. Canberra would be unchanged. Melbourne Maggots----Storm-----sorry unchanged.

Thats seven teams, 3 in Qld  and 1 Melb 1 Canberra and their is balance in the Rugby league Universe.

Take note Tad, i did that exercise as a way of evening up the cap and distributing junior territories.

Don't panic it will never happen!

      • good response Poppa I also think the Islander nations would add a lot to the comp.to really take advantage of tribalism identity

  • You might want to keep going with Moses.  Try more like 950k. You don't knock back a million from Brisbane to accept 850k.  Either way he was all class come contract time and showed Flufferson how it's done , but if you think he's on anything less than 900+ you're dreaming.

Hence my criticism of his input at critical times of the game. He's getting Superstar money and yet everyone still affords him the " still maturing " pass.  We absaloutey need much more from Moses if we are going to win anything more than the coin toss.

    • we need a foil for Moses more.

Imagine if we find a player within the team that could take some attacking pressure of Moses, someone that could attract the attention of the defence / splitting that defence into two minds and giving Moses a tiny bit of space, that split second extra time. At the moment Moses is targeted like no other top halfback, because the defence know that if we are to score , that more times then not,  Moses will handle the ball, they throw multiple defenders at soeed and target Moses.

Just imagine perhaps a 5/8 that could step up and create more then 3 try assists and 3 line break assists. If that were too happen. The defence could not throw eevrything at the one attacking pkayer"Moses". Defence would have to consider two attacking options within our team and play accordingly. Moses game would elevate to what your asking.... Im sure of it...
