Salary cap

1. We are told that for this year we are under the salary cap (problem was previous years)2. Sandow leaves behind about 100k of salary capSo why do we not have a new found 100k of room to bring up one new player if BA chose too?1. BA could but does not want to - probable2. The salary cap rules mean that bringing a second tier player into the top 25 for a game at the end of a season blows more than 100k- the rules would have to be crazy - possible3. NRL found something new that put us over the cap - unlikely otherwise Sandow would not have wasted energy trying for 150k4. BA prefers to use the extra 100k to forward pay a salary and free up more cap for next year - possible

  • In addition our top 25 is now different because Sandow is gone
So number 26 should become number 25 and open up room in the second tier - not necessarily how it works but would be logical
    • If only the NRL were logical....

  • The room in the cap caused by Sandow's departure only relates to our NRL salary cap. We can't bring in any young guns because we've already reached the limit for the second-tier salary cap.

    • So loss of a nrl player does not mean we can move a second tier into the top 25 for the rest of the year freeing up some second tier cap?
I can see this is possible but it would seem to mean if your top player left halfway through the year then he could not be replaced - as your top 25 is effectively set
    • Wile E, if that was the case you could just sack anyone you want to free up cap space.
  • I think there is a chance the NRL will make us put Hayne's $50k in this year's cap, so there goes some of it.
    • I  could be wrong but I dont think that 50K would count towards our cap as it wouldn't be in our top 25 highest paid players (min top 25 salary is 90K)

  • Some great questions

    Looking forward to some reply's

Please tell me that we are not going to have the same problems next year with 2nd tier. Most other clubs can manage this part of the cap. The past is the past. I just hope that we are all over it for a clean start in 2016.

PS - Can we PLEASE recruit a life coach or a sports Phycologist. Someone that can get 17 players to be in the game for 80 mins each week.

    • I think you are so spot on with your PS.I have always said that sport is more about whats in the mind than physical and that IMO has been and will continue to be Parras problem until they can change the mindset and a great sports Psychologist is imperative for Parra to change this.

    • Sports Psychology is important but as I've said in a previous blog. There's too much disparity in terms of player payments (salaries). What is happening in this sport today (and it's just my thought) is that you have a handful of players who are getting paid a pretty penny whilst you have others in the Top 25 on mediocre pay. Would you put your heart and soul into your job if you knew the person next to you is getting quadruple your pay? Remember, there's no "I" in team so unless they can figure out a way to balance players wages then you're gonna end up with the "Haves" and "Have Not's".
