Ryan Matterson.

The club had huge wraps on this kid, hence re-signing him on a 3 year deal and training with the full-time squad. Don't hold me to it but I think he is in the top 25?

I have watched a few NSW Cup games this year but also follow Forty20's live game day feed.

Luke Kelly is rubbish (sorry, just calling a spade a spade) even at this level but does maintain the cocky demeanour and attitude (a very poor one, swell head comes to mind) that he is too good for this grade and blows up at all around him when he makes a mistake through his own lack of ability. That can be quite intimidating for a young kid.

I note from a previous blog that Ryan has been dropped to Ron Massey cup this week. For mine, this is due playing along side an incompetent  halves partner who dominates play (attempts to) with a cocky attitude for Ryan's demotion and lack of game day development.

I couldn't care less where the team finishes in the NSW Cup it should be used as a true development competition towards producing NRL players. Ryan will never become one or learn anything from partnering Luke Kelly who should not still be with the club in any capacity. He has had his opportunities. IMO it would of been better to even partner Ryan with a familiar face like ZDC for confidence and familiarity reasons. Any mentoring and game analysis can be left to the coaches. That's what their paid to do right? but as part of their development thought should be put into who you are surrounding them with and what influence they will have. I don't think Joseph Paulo for example could teach a kid how to run hard and straight at a defensive line.

I'm sure Ryan's confidence is shot after being demoted after such high hopes for the season and training with the NRL squad. I hope the kid bounces back quickly.

I think the game shot itself in the foot when it axed the true reserve grade format.

  • I know, I've already got boot prints on my behind from the great poppa.

  • Why, is poppa black too?
  • Ive only seen matterson play a few times and i rate him. Hes got a prescence on the field. I thought that BA would be pushing him through.

  •      I think Sandow and Kelly n seffa should be playing Ron massey cup n have matto play NRL

  • here is my case in point.

a kid like ryan should of been blooded at NRL level , now his confidence is shot . Kids like ryan and bevan would thrive given the chance at the NRL because they wouldnt have time to think about how tough it would be and just play what they see. Sick and tired of this cotton wool rubbish . These kids wouldnt be here if they didnt know how to play.

What could possible Ryan have learnt from Kelly that he didnt already know?

    • X2 good point
  • He is a lock and will get a crack at nrl next year imo
    • Im with you hindy I think Matto going to play lock one day for us

  • Play him off the bench instead of , oh I dont know...umm who have we got that is like a ball playing forward type but is replaceable. ...oh oh I've got it Slowseff Poorlo.
  • Definitely a lock, seen him at Camden playing fields watching his brother I believe and he is pretty big... Should be getting blooded now while we arent performing as great so hes ready to perform comfortably when it matters IMO.
