Ryan Carr future coach

I just wanted to do a quick blog in regards to Ryan Carr. Mentioned of him maybe getting the Leeds job in the past as well as other English jobs. To me, it would be said to see him go, however you would rather him go to ESL then NRL for simple reasons, it is a lot easier to attract Australian coaches from overseas to the NRL. For Carr, getting experience in ESL could do wonders for his coaching, you can see the results he has given as NSW cup coach for us in back to back seasons, young mind that never made it to the NRL himself but seems to have the goods for the future.

BA's deal ends in 2024, do we see Carr as head coach in 2025? well one thing is for sure he wouldn't be at the club in his current role til 2025 and nor would we want him to be, being NSW cup coach for another 3 years shows no growth and also if other clubs do not express interest in him and he does not express interest elsewhere then shows he is not that well regarded and not confident himself. Which is why i believe a move to ESL would be perfect for him in 2023 if given the opportunity. Only issue may also be he left Featherstone one year into a two year deal due to family reasons, so would he go back there? or was it we wanted him and decided to take it?

All i know is he is one to hold onto in some way, even upgrading him to assistant in place of Murphy to keep him in the club, if it is time for a new face as head coach why not hire within.

What does everyone else think? Do we like Carr as a future coach possibly? in a league short of quality players it is the same as coaches, but one diamond in the rough shines through, Carr could be one.

  • Way too earlly to tell, and we need an experienced coach for our next imo, not somebody whos going to learn his trade with us, we need a big name coach next

    • Well that depends on what we want to do as a club. If we are still in win now mentality then we go with a Bennett type of coach who may be available to have a push at the title. If we choose to rebuild in 2025 then Carr is an option.

It is too early to tell but it depends on what they club wants to do when moving on from BA or when he decides to move on. If BA stays on as a consultant type Carr could be the perfect choice.

        • Well sometimes you need too, or can do a reboot

Look at Cronulla with Fitzgibbon, rebooting more so than rebuilding

          • Comparing Fitzy and Ryan is a bridge to far, Fitzy has spent years as assistant coach at the Roosters and the blues - adding Ryan Carr to the FG coaching staff makes sense given his in charge of NSW cup and has links to the players coming up

            • I am not comparing them as coaches completley, simply saying a rookie coach does not mean rebuilding depending on the circumstances rare but can be done, but if a coach comes from ESL are they considered a rookie?

      • Carr has proved nothing bro, its not even worth seriously discussing because of that.

Every club always has to rebuild with new clubs and coaches.

Im about putting our club in the best position possible to win games and win comps, ive been around long enough to know that as a club, we dont have the time to fuck around, we need to demand the best, its time to demand the best.

Theres too many variables that can and will fuck up with young new coaches, you gotta be real lucky to get a good/potential elite one and most take years and years to get things rigfht, thats if they even last more than a few years.

We need to poach a top coach, not wait for when our coach is finished, we need to be proactive and steal a big name coach with big money.

A coach whos already learned his trade somewhere else and has plenty of mistakes and learning out of the way with another club.

A coach who can take us to the elite level

Mate while you wernt even a twinkle in your fathers eye, i was watching this club and its cycles, i and us older guys see the bvig picture, some of you younger blokes think youre seeing the big pic but its very limited due to experience.

You might have plenty of patience now but you wont in another 20 years i promise you.

Its time to want and demand more than untested rookie coaches, our club deserves better than that, so do our long suffering supporters.

Im personally sick of mediocrity and i demand better for the fans and club, a rookie coach like carr is just not good enough on any level..

        • Well who would you get in that situation though Snake? Bennett? Robinson? Bellamy? All those coaches will not come to us anytime soon, all those coaches started somewhere and sometimes it is pure luck.

          • LB, back in the day, one of the main reasons we won 3 in a row and were up there every other year, was because we poached the great Jack Gibson from easts where he had just taken them to two gf wins.

Then he took us to a threepeat.

John monie his understudy, who was a rookie at the time and his assistant coach took over and did win us the 86 comp, but it was off the back of the culture jack built and he had a killer team.

We could fuck around for another 30 years giving rookies a chance.

We gave the rookie BA a chance and here we are a decade later still twiddling our thumbs

              • That is the only way to get a coach these days, if they choose to leave. Clubs keep world class coaches, simple as that, only when coaches like Bennett who put themselves on the market no matter what their current team does is when you get instances of great coaches going elsewhere.

I do not see that happening anytime soon, with Bennett content with staying in Brisbane and Bellamy content with simply retiring, if he does coach again it too will be in Brisbane. Robinson signed til 2027, after them you do not have any world class coaches left, you have great coaches but we want top class.

                • A club has to develop its next coach in much the same way it has to develop its next generation of players. A coaches development program is every bit as important. Another thing the Storm & Roosters do so well.
