Russel Packer

After the Warriors signed Tompkins they need to release Locke (Bulldogs most likely) and Packer. Parra should be trying to pick him up, he is big and can eat up the metres.

  • yes!

  • Hopefully Locke goes to the Dogs and they keep their dirty hands off Hoppa. This article seems to suggest their prop Ben Matulino wants out too. From the little I saw of him this year he looked pretty dangerous...

NZ Warriors face player upheavals in offseason
Kevin Locke and Russell Packer look set to leave the Warriors, while there have been suggestions Ben Matulino wants out.
    • Matulino was a top 5 prop in the game before Elliot arrived and stuffed him around. He is very underrated by most.

    • Matulino won't be going anywhere. Not until 2016 at least.

  • Packer had a great season in 2012. Easily one of the best props in that year. Was carving up left, right & centre.
This year, he's dipped significantly. Bit of injury, poor form and chopping and changing - it all left him hanging and his form dropped.

  • Can he play fullback?
    We need more fullbacks!
    • Can he coach?

      We need more coaches?

  • Packer's 2013 stats:

    Rd 1: DNP

    Rd 2: DNP

    Rd 3: DNP

    Rd 4: DNP

    Rd 5: 29 minutes, 47m from 6 runs, 14 tackles.

    Rd 6: 27 minutes, 56m from 6 runs, 20 tackles, 2 offloads, 1 line-break assist & 1 error.

    Rd 7: 33 minutes, 50m from 4 runs, 14 tackles.

    Rd 8: 40 minutes, 75m from 10 runs, 1 tackle break, 19 tackles & 2 offloads.

    Rd 9: 39 minutes, 50m from 8 runs, 1 try assist, 23 tackles, 2 offloads & 1 line-break assist.

    Rd 10: 33 minutes, 35m from 4 runs, 1 tackle break, 16 tackles & 1 offload.

    Rd 11: 28 minutes, 42m from 4 runs, 1 tackle break, 14 tackles & 1 penalty conceded.

    Rd 12: 34 minutes, 1 try, 70m from 10 runs, 2 tackle breaks, 10 tackles, 1 offload & 1 line-break.

    Rd 13: DNP.

    Rd 14: 13 minutes, 61m from 6 runs, 6 tackles & 1 penalty conceded.

    Rd 15: BYE.

    Rd 16: DNP.

    Rd 17: DNP

    Rd 18: BYE

    Rd 19: DNP.

    Rd 20: DNP

    Rd 21: DNP.

    Rd 22: DNP.

    Rd 23: DNP

    Rd 24: DNP.

    Rd 25: DNP.

    Rd 26: DNP.

Injuries, poor form & co. all kept him out for long periods.
That, and falling out of favour with Elliott it seems.

Can play well but also has inconsistent periods.

    • Rd 12... you forgot his magical piss-break.

    • I'd like to see his previous years stats because going by these stats he avg'd 30 minutes per game, 6.44 runs per game meaning he only ran the ball once every 4 and a half minutes for an avg just over 8 meters per run.

8 meters per run is ok but you need your props running it a lot more than once every 4 and a half minutes.

If we want meter eaters going by these stats he isn't the man for us.
