Rumour: Apa Twidle to back out of Perth deal?

This is purely speculative. It was on other forums and a few people have said it. Some even pointing towards Joash being the one now to go to Perth and Apa backs out. Whether he stays here remains to be seen, though you'd imagine it to be the case.

Now, is this believable? Take out the fact he has signed a contract, yeah it is for a few reasons. Firstly, Perth is such a big move. It is on the other side of the country. Closer to the UK than any other state that plays League. He has family in Sydney and NZ. It would be a 5 hour trip back to Sydney and 7 hours to NZ. That can be a big move, when that far away from family.

Secondly, though i mentioned he went to Perth as there would be opportunities since they are new team, that last part can strike fear. They are a new team, a team with a squad like this more likely will suck. Not for one year but multiple. Added to that was Perth signing Mason Barber from NQ. They also have Meaney who is expected to be the Fullback. They also have Jack Cole and Nawihi Puru signed to possibly play 5/8. So where does Twidle fit? Would he get more opportunities at Perth? Well yeah, until the Joash news happened where he was not picked for the game on Saturday.

Many here, including myself wondered why Joash out of nowhere was not picked but Twidle was. Now is it because of this? Probably not, but never know as to why i am bringing it up now. But could Twidle do a Paulo? Maybe, as though he has a 3 year deal, probably some alright money and a chance to play regular FG, he might see staying in Sydney and closer to home more valuable. Perth as well might have seen a chance to get Joash who is a little bit more experienced and perhaps a Fullback Meninga preferred. Plus, with him playing close to 30 NRL games, we all knew there would be a point where Joash would eventually want to be a full-time starter, or have to chance to be. Perth could be that chance as i reckon he walks in as their starting Fullback from day 1.

Will this be the case, no idea, probably not. Does it make sense? Absolutely it does. It would explain Ryles using Twidle at 1. Getting him ready to be Iongi's back-up and the 18th man next year? Again, this is just rumour, nothing confirmed, not really great sources either in terms of trustworthiness. But nice for a discussion.

  • Ima come out and say it but I'd rather apa then Joash.

    • At this stage not an odd thing to say. Look at it from the point of view that Apa would have more potential than Joash as a half. Joash is better in defence but Apa offers way more attacking upside.

    • 💯

I thought the club did the wrong thing in letting Apa go. Has potential to play in more positions, given his size. Joash had his chances and didn't take them.

  • In all honesty we don't know what's gonna happen we're an open book with a new CEO to come in. I think Apa stays, you wouldn't go to Perth when you can learn of Luai for a year and try to take the six role himself or develop into a really good fullback. I expect us to sign some players soon and resign. So who knows.

    • I think there would be more to it than just learning to play 6 under Luai. I mean his deal with Perth came along quickly. It could have over time dwelled on him that he will be away from family, 7 hours away. I know some player do it in SL, but that is last resort. Twidle had NRL interest. Going to Brisbane or Melbourne is not far to NZ either, but Perth?

Also, with who they are signing, though not great, there would be a lot of who is going to play where, them signing Mason Barber maybe has him thinking will I be playing? If not I'd rather stay in Sydney.

Then with Joash, if this is true, it make sense. He gets to play regular NRL footy week in week out.

      • Poor Joash but Twidle is more talented and I hope he stays with us.

  • I prefer Apa as our fullback cover, but he's good enough to start NRL so prolly should go to Perth.

He's more nimble and playmakery as a fullback which I think we need. Joash is fine too and can be quite physical so I'm OK with him.

    Neither are halves.

  • I think apa has a higher ceiling.  Many found it bewildering how apa was named despite him leaving.  Hope he stays

    • Most see Apa as a fb as he's mostly played that spot, but I can see him as a 7 as well. The guy's got time. Vision as well

So make my day punk...and stay
