Ruck Penalty

Following this game, I no longer have any idea what constitutes a ruck penalty. Plenty of times I saw the storm laying all over the ruck - no penalty. Having watched nrl all my life - I thought it was a penalty. Apparently not. I don't think we deserved the win, but I do belive we deserved allot more penalties

  • If we're being deadset, there's probably a ruck infringement every single play the ball. Every ref has a different interpretation tho and only calls it when they feel like it

  • BA is trying to play too clean.  Its a complete failure as we're giving away unitentional 6 agains when we're run off our feet.

The good clubs do their best to slow the momentum down on purpose.  Storm were happy to pureposely conceded a restart and a couple back to back if needed. Our guys are trying to let the opposition play the ball at world record speed.

  • I reckon BA still thinks he is still coaching the Hills Rhinos, a bunch of young kids. He likes to lay clean but this is first grade and big men's game. You need to be shrewd just like what Melbourne is known for - holding down players, tangling hands and legs, taking long time to get-up. We immediately release our tackles (if ever it is made) that even allowed them to offload. And why are our players always so slow in getting up from a tackle or hit-ups. Our play the ball might be one of the slowest.

    • Not sure you noticed but when we held them for a millisecond longer they got 6 again and marched down to our 10m line. I think we have one of the quickest play the balls in the comp by memory and that's why teams have been laying all over us .

It really comes down to a good on feild captain professionally approaching the referee with his arms by his side and politely asking him to please monitor the ruck speed as they're laying all over us. Waiving your hands in the air like ya just don't care ain't the way it's done.

      • No , we have one of the slowest play the balls in the comp.

You have to be prepared to give always a few 6 agains and get into a rhythm of what the ref will allow. If your Def line is scattered because of a roll on give away a six again or two . All the good teams are prepared to do it when their middle is getting blown out.

  • It's a good question and one I asked myself too. We kept getting pinged for 6 again and honestly I could not work out why. As the game wore on the differences in ruck speed were startling. Particularly inside 10m. Its obviously a deliberate strategy of Melbourne. Even old Tepai Meroa was playing the ball like a teenager close to the line.

  • Melbourne hold down so much. We let go as fast as we can and it actually cost us a few times tonight. Harry grant 2ns try was the quickest play the ball iv ever seen

  • Just an interesting stat. Parra have only had a faster average play the ball speed than their opposition twice this year. Round 9 against Newcastle and Round 2 against the sharks.

  • What about that escort penalty against Asi? FMD

"I don't believe this hearing Feb12-13 is about compensation but just whether (or not) Parra can continue to stop Lomax joining any NRL team without our permission.
If it expands to other issues it will be dragging out for a year or so."
