Round one tactics

What strategy could we use against mainlyWhat might they try against usWe have height advantages out wide but they have height advantage at fullback - so obviously high attacking kicks are likely at the respective teams height advantageThey will probably avoid kicking to Semi and test out Bevan on the kick return. And may look to intercept a pass from Bevan to Semi if it is tried. If we know it's coming hopefully we can have some set counterattacks with Bevan, Semi and Hoffman linking up.They will also likely try and pressure Norman expecting he will always be our go to on the last. Again we know it's coming. Can we take advantage of them rushing at Norman.Moanly know we have got a good defensive line so they are likely to a have a few creative plans, which probably include Walker and SironenJust hope we can get at least 50% of the possession and we should win.

  • It won't be just Manly, it will be every other team this year. Don't need to be Einstein to work out their big men will target our untried and inexperience halves and kick to French. For our attack, we just need to make sure our more experienced outside backs see a lot more early balls this year if we're to have points in us. Deeper in attack and don't leave until 4th or 5th tackle to spread the ball wide.
  • I wonder if French is an option to kick. From what I saw on the all-stars and trial against panthers, he could be the other kicker. it seems hes been putting work in.

  • Quite simple really, direct ALL traffic at Uate, he panics and makes dumb decisions.
    • Also has two left feet for hands
    • That left side (our right side attack) defence of Manly's may be open for some attacking raids. They'll not only have Uate on the wing but they'll have either Kelly or Wright at centre and Green in the halves. A few short balls to Tep early in the piece having him run at Green and then for the sweep to either Norman or French could work well.

We shouldn't direct all traffic down that side, I mean we do have Ma'u, Norman, Jennings and Semi on the other side of the field and Semi does like scoring tries against Manly.

    • Good tactic!

  • People seem to have forgotten the x-factor..that is Frank Pritchard. He needs good ball down the weak defensive side. They wont stop him.

  • Get Norman deep behind the line when attacking with a sweep play involving Taka and French.
Have Ma'u hitting holes on the edges with French and Semi in tow.
Have Vave come on ten minutes after Tapau and run as fast as he can straight at him.
Move the ball a lot and test out the defense of both their centres.
Cross field kicks for both wingers.
    Hit Myles low.

    • Taupau is good at straight on defence though. He becomes a weak defender when he has to jog back 10 metres, come up and meet the ball runner. He also struggles with reading the play. Better off having some short passes in front of him or a block play.

I think they'll play him in the middle though so the block play becomes harder to execute. Hopefully they have him defend on an edge where we can exploit his defensive shortcomings more.

  • I will worry EVERY GAME now we have no parra stadium . The lack of ' home' surely counts for at least ??? Many tight game losses ?? More than a few
