Eels centre Waqa Blake has escaped suspension despite being charged for a high tackle in his team's dramatic win over Manly.

Blake has been charged with a grade-one careless high tackle for a 19th-minute incident involving Sea Eagles hooker Danny Levi in Parramatta's 19-16 win at Bankwest Stadium on Saturday night.

Because of the low grading and his good record, he will cop a $550 fine if he enters an early guilty plea or $750 if he unsuccessfully challenges the charge at the judiciary.

  • That is a joke.

Blake's first contact was chest and the arm wrapping around went high.

They high shot on RCG was worse - initial contact high

  • well i,m not upset with that manly's first two tries comes with Blake going for a bigshot and not attempting to wrap his arm's around the attacker to stop him from scoring he was there twice and twice did the same rubbish he needs to get that out of his game and start tackling using his arms.

  • Blake is pretty useless at times. Let in 2 tries going got the big shot instead of wrapping the man and the ball up

  • Waqa's shot was clumsy, borderline careless. I agree with Gus on this, we suspend players far too easily for relatively minor offences, fines are sufficient.

  • I thought the tackle was ok. I really like the way Blake is playing. Very physical and intimidating. He's actually a very different player to the bloke who first made first grade at Penrith. He has more size about him and is more willing to do the tough stuff. Possibly lost a smidge of raw pace but it's a good trade off.

    • Yeah, nah.

Yeah I like his agression, but he cost us two tries where he went for the big hit instead of just making the tackle on the line.

BA needs to tell him to pull his head in before our try line.

      • Yeah nah. That aggression is exactly what you want defensively in a centre. Arthur won't be telling him shit

        • Agreed

        • Before the try line, he should be wrapping up the ball, if it's past the try line then yeah smash and try to force the error.

Twice against manly he just bounced off and let them score.
