roosters issued breach

Media ReleaseTue, Apr 26, 2016 - 05:55PMThe Sydney Roosters have been issued two breach notices, each proposing a fine of $20,000, for incidents involving criticism of the referees at Monday's Anzac Day match against the Dragons. In the first incident, Roosters coach Trent Robinson allegedly approached and harassed referee Ben Cummins in the Allianz Stadium tunnel at the end of the match. In the second incident, Mr Robinson attacked the credibility of Mr Cummins in his post-match press conference.NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said both incidents were potential breaches of the NRL rules and the club would have 7 days to respond to the breach notices before a final determination was made. "We cannot stand by and allow any club to deliberately and blatantly attack our referees," Mr Greenberg said."Not only is it a breach of the rules which are there to protect our referees from abuse, but it sets a bad example to the rest of the game, particularly juniors."We know from experience that young people imitate their NRL heroes and attacking referees is simply not acceptable."We are also trying to encourage young people to become referees and public attacks like this do nothing to achieve that goal."Mr Greenberg said the NRL recognised that referees, like players, make mistakes in games and it was not surprising that clubs were sometimes frustrated by calls which went against them."But there are proper channels to vent those concerns and they were not followed in this instance," he said."Our referees boss, Tony Archer is happy to talk to any club about issues which arise out of a game and that is the right way to address any problems."

  • When is Pearce back?
    • Pretty sure pearce and jared are back rd9
  • Uncle Nick probably spends that on a night out . I can tell you now he would've called and told Robbo to unleash I'll cover it . I have a mate who is on their staff and the stories he's told me about the cash that's thrown by him is outstanding .
  • The fact the MRC did not fall in to line and issue a bogus charge against Nappa and who ever did that great tackle that the idiots in the bunker said was late, adds a lot of credibility to the MRC. They would have been under pressure to back up the boofheads in the bunker.
That's about the first nice thing I have ever said about the MRC.
The Bunker boneheads should be issued a breach notice for those two glaring errors, as proven by the NRL's own Bunker
    • Not surprised that a bloke who pushes in at traffic lights , terrorising innocent and patient commuters on their way home from works side mirrors thinks the corrupt MRC have credibility . I'm still recovering from that blog you wrote a few years ago demanding the Childrens Hospital be closed and the building be used to treat gravel rash for injured motorbike riders .

I think you'll find the MRC didn't fold as they're scared of Mr Politis and his mates .
  • Ok, thanks. I guess he's had a good rest after that violation.
  • Frankie on again mate. I had littl time for Greenburg when he was bandied about as Canterbury boss, and he's a pollie all the way. Talks dribble. And never earn his stripes IMO.
Robinson said what many would and can say. If you ever see the EPL show and they interview managers all the time. Not sure if they have a fines systems there but the managers always make fair and open comment on the refs. And their game is ten fold bigger than ours, and if we don't cop criticism then how do we reflect ? Ohhh that's right it's a love fest of pats in back etc. the administrators have lost the plot.
    • Mitchy, Robinson's points were fair but the method in which he went about it was not.

The two Fifita boys were punished last year for bullying a junior ref, yet a head coach of an NRL club did the exact same thing!

It behooves the players and coaches at the top level to set an example and this was nothing more than a case of bullying.

Politis has used his power and influence to paint the NRL into a corner. What will the NRL do now? Pull Cummins from future Roosters games, or let him ref them, allowing every decision to come under scrutiny? And Cummins will know that so, in all likelihood, he'll ref them softly from here on in.

Remember when Darrel Hair rightly called Muttiah Muralitharan for chucking? He basically got rissoled out of the game of cricket. This is the same thing.

You can pretty much bet that Politis told Robinson to engage in a very public attack on a referee's integrity with the surety that any fine would be covered by the Roosters supremo.

This was a powerplay by a club administrator to get his own way by publicly undermining the NRL.

      It's just not on!

    • The EPL does have a fines system, its more sever than the NRL's in terms of the amount of the fine. The EPL then ensures that referee wont ref the complaining team for a long time if again for the year. EPL coaches are more than happy to take a fine to remove a ref they don't like from their future matches.

    • I think you will find EPL coaches can be suspended for several matches
