Roosters

It's hard to remember a club team so dangerous in attack, yet so disciplined and stone walled in defence.

Watching the game tonight against the Dogs, it felt like any NRL team would seriously struggle to contain their attack (I know the Dogs suck).

It's as if the new rules changes suit their roster better than any other, or probably more appropriately, their coaching staff have been more progressive at developing and implementing the best tactics to exploit them.  Every movement was done at pace and was crisp, even their offloads and passes in traffic. All their forwards use late footwork which seems to punch through the defensive line that extra half metre or more to get that quick play of the ball, and their outside backs look like they are playing touch footy with the amount of room that's created. Additionally, the work off the ball is so intense and busy, everybody seems to be running lines or decoys and pushing up in support. Then you have Tedesco to ensure the finish is next to unstoppable.

In defence, their line speed is so quick and their hunger to dominate is obvious. Victor Radley enjoys belting players and their scramble defence is so desperate, even when up by 30 points. It seemed like there were 4 defenders every time the dogs made a break or half break.

I can't wait to see where Parra are at when we take them on, but I won't lie either, I'm scared about a 13+ point defeat. This Roosters side is special.

  • The way to beat the Roosters is simple, BASH them.

The GF last year wasnt fair the Rooster should of lost that game and as a result we hold the Roosters is such high regard but they can be beaten, the Raiders showed the blueprint, no other team in the comp was better at stopping post contact metres than the Raiders in 2019 and the Roosters stuggled all game beacuse they couldnt make those extras that the other teams give them.

Let them run painless you lose the game, make them bleed for every inch they soften very quickly and cant wait to get into Nick 'spare' Mercedes back to Bondi.

    • Total agree the Roosters should not even be premiers! It's a total sham!

      • Fong, The Rooster lost to the Panthers and the Eagles this year both teams we beat. Both Manly and Panthers are 100 times more aggresive than the Roosters they showed the way, if Roosters didnt cheat and tackle Papalii without the ball and ditn bribe the ref to cancel his 6 again call then Roosters win 1 premiership in a row.

Teams mentioned and Melbourne show the blueprint its a simple one, Roosters dont like it when teams play tough and aggressive, Dogs let them walk over them tonight.

In saying that though its going to be tough now with Evans out as he was our better back up prop. But in a game with feeling and passion Roosters always choke. Look at a few years back when Manu Mau smashed JWH and we beat them with a shithouse roster? get all over them and bash them... simple..

        • No team likes it when the opposition plays tough & aggressive, the Roosters are hardly alone in that.

      • It will be interesting to see Roosters play a quality side. They looked ordinary at the start of the season and now have beaten a broncos side with $3 million dollars sitting on the sidelines and we all know the dogs are a trash side.

Last years performance means little this year now that they lost Cronk and Mitchell

          • From memory we won that one easily. Brisbane came out to play for the first 20 min for our game.

  • I felt the Roosters tend to get a lot of extra help from the refs. They were well inside the 10 most of the night as they are in most games. The six again rule needs to be scrapped as it's not consistently administered on a even keel and there are already teams and players who are manipulating it already and it's only been on the field a few weeks. I Would truly hate for the Roosters to win 3 premierships in a row as they're nowhere near being compared to the last team to win treble premierships as the Eels of the 80's and neither is Trent Robinson in the same league as Jack Gibson.

    • Good to see you are carrying on about another team Monts. Predictable but a change.  If Melbourne and The Roosters play in this year’s Grand Final they will need to sedate you my boy.

      • To be honest Frankie, I'm not sure. The Eels have improved immensely BUT whether they're to either excel or capitulate against the tougher, aggressive and confident sides like the Storm, Roosters and Raiders is yet to be seen. My main concern Frankie with the Eels under Brad Arthur coaching is to not buckle under the pressure of playing top sides but to rise to the challenge and become aggressively dominant for 80 minutes and put these teams to the sword. The next few weeks will see what the Eels are made of. Even if the Eels lose to both the Roosters and Storm but can display and make it a close game, then that's positive results.
