ROBSON V KINGSTON

I am concerned that we might have got rid of the wrong player. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Robson, but in terms of depth, I would have thought investing in Kingston as a back up hooker, coming off the bench like this year would have been money better spent that Robson at half

  • YEH i agree its a huge loss , robson i think is one of those safe players , something like burt. He is reliable to play well , adds stability to the halves , i expect robson to take off in 2010 . But rest assured , we have a few halfbacks ready to go
  • we have good hookers coming through like anthony mitchell what we need is backup halves and robson is the man for the job.
  • No doubt that I would've preferred both Kingston and Robson to stay, however if we had to choose only one; I think Parramatta made the right choice.

Robson is, in effect, our most experienced organising halfback... and he's more of a structural halfback than Kris Keating and Daniel Mortimer (who are both five-eighths).

I also think that the loss of Kingston, while big, can be covered with Kris Keating coming off the bench at 14 to fill in some time at hooker. We know KK has great impact off the bench as we saw in 08 and the beginning of 09.
  • Who cares.... Kingston is gone and we have to move on. Robson will only be a back up half.
    • thats right - robson is serving is purpose. not many players would sign a 2 year deal knowing full well in their season they will be playing park football.
  • matt keating will be playing 80 minutes next year and KK and Mortimer will be the 6 and 7...
  • I've got good mail that the Keating brothers will be our hookers next year. Robson has been retained to play half back.
  • As much as I supported Kingston throughout the year I don't think he was ever going to stay for next year once robson started going well at half back. With the outside backs going great we need a halfback to organise the team and get them the ball. M Keating deserves the starting hooker role and I think KK will kill them off the bench rather than playing halfback. It's a shame but we can't keep everyone.
  • Are you footing the bill for the orchestra, Tony?
  • IMO Kingston did a good job but that's all he did - a good job. He didn't regularly split open the game like a Brad Drew or a PJ Marsh has done for us in the past. As I've said before, 3 hookers in a roster of 25 when you've got two other blokes who can also fill in that role is not a well-balanced roster.

Robson can cover 6,7 and 9 which is exactly what we need.
