Richard Penisini

A kid i have watched a bit of late and just think to myself he is so raw yet want to see how he plays once BA and Barrett get their hands on him. Surely he will be training with FG in summer, he is a full-timer in NSW cup. Still only 18, has a killer offload and pass on him, plus size. He mirrors Stephen Crichton a lot, not saying he will be as good as him or anything but he looks so similar in stature and the way he plays. He is a Centre, maybe Fullback with some training, but he has played some Wing and is good under the high ball. He could be a smokey for a Wing spot in 2024. He is not super fast, but is fast in general. Put it this way, his body is more ready for FG than most of our backs in the lower grades, he does not have the same body type as Will, more taller and athletic. He is not a prolific try scorer, more so a creator. Watching his highlights he wonderfully skilled and poised with ball in hand, making breaks and is able to draw and pass very well. Richard could very be our left Centre in 2025, or could be our Winger for now, where he will not look out of place.

He needs to start the year in Cup however, a notion i hope the club recognises in future of blooding these kids early in cup footy. They are starting to do that now, but more with the older players. Though i do not see why Penisini and MA who are 18, 19 next year cannot be in Cup quite early. I know a few here watch a bit more juniors than i do, what is your opinion on Penisini? I know we also have Ethyn Martin, absolute speedster with agility, he is 21 next year though only been back in league since mid this year. Though could it be realistic we see Richard in NSW cup or even FG in 2024?

Plus, please shy away from the jokes that will eventually pop up of Dick being short for Richard, with a last name of Penisini. Yeah, some here will put two and two together lol.

  • Is there a highlight video of RP?

    • No highlight video, but watch the highlights of last week's Flegg win, he has some nice breaks in that game. He is no.3, right Centre.

      • Thanks - RP looked good - good skill set. Looks like lots of talent in that team. Toni Mataele has looked good to me in the KOE.

  • That first sentence could land you in jail.

    • Yeah, especially if you only read that sentence and the final paragraph.

  • Agreed. Blaize, Richie, Kokolafe. Future first graders.

    • Not sure on Komolafe. He showed flashes in 2022 in NSW cup, but defensively is not great.

Talagi is another, not great defensively and seems at the moment injury prone. Hope he is able to get out of it.

      • Probably because Talagi is shifting from 5/8 to the centres. He's still learning the job.

We probably see a lot of this year's SG Ball guys being blooded into reserve grade next year, especially in the backline given how poor it has been.

"Not a fan of the conference concept. English premier league manages with 20 clubs. Can still do the top 8 for a finals series if they want to do the whole thing. Play each team twice one home/one away and it gets rid of the 'easy' runs"
