Return To "More Canterbury Than NSW"

I asserted in the above blog that Reynolds of Canterbury got his downgrading by the efforts of the Canterbury Mafia not the evidence of the case. Most replies disagreed with me but one or two, including me,said they would keep an eye on similar cases. Well out of SOO2 ,Watmough of Manly failed in his attempt to get a downgrade last night.

Most people who have commented on the Watmough case say that his tackle on Myles was far less serious than Reynold`s was on Tate in SOO1. Merrin, Watmough`s team mate in SOO2, said his tackle should never have been put on charge!  Yet, Reyolds got off and played SOO2 but Watmough plea is denighed and he will miss many weeks including SOO3!  What gives? One commentator put it that the NRL had painted itself into a corner over the Reynold`s ruling if they let Watmough off it makes a complete shambles of their alleged crackdown on dangerous lifting tackles. But if they do what they have done the difference of the approach to the two cases is breathtaking. Some people said there was no Canterbury conspiracy. Do you still believe that now, given the Watmough verdict?

    •  Watmough was seeking a downgrade, as was Reynolds.  Watmough was unsuccessful in geting a downgrade according to the report on Foxsport. The grading as to the seriousness of a lifting tackle has nothing to to with carry over points at that stage, as I understand it. If he is found guilty then carry over points then come into it as to the length of his sentence, as I understand it.

  • During the game, when he lifted him with his arm between his legs, I thought straight away that he'd be cited & suspended. Much worse that the Reynolds tackle. If anyone can put the video up of the two incidents, it's pretty cut & dried. Talk about Canterbury mafia is bullshit. I hate the dogs as much as the next Parra supporter, but I don't think there's anything to see here.

    • Watmough had a hand between the legs while lifting, should not have even contested it.
  • Ten times worse then the Reynolds tackle. I would have been shocked if he got off. I thought Reynolds would get off before they made the decision. That's SOO. Not many people get a suspension from these games. Watmough fully deserved his suspension. Reynolds did not. Time to get these voices out of your head mate.

  • the difference is carryover points and another thing - No live origin. it's a dead rubber.
    nothing to do with Canterbury
