Retro classic gaming consoles

A little off the topic of the mighty Eels but recently released in JB-Hi-Fi, EB Games & Target stores are the awesome classic 90's video game consoles...Nintendo & Sega Mega Drive.

I'm pretty sure both fetch around a price tag of about $89 with the NES having 30 built in games including all the Super Mario games & the Sega has a whopping 80 built in games including all three Mortal Kombats & Sonic the Hedgehog.

Being born in 81 (yes I brought good luck to Parramatta) I grew up in the 90's absolutely loving these consoles, don't get me wrong the fanciness & technological upgrading of video games now on devices such as PlayStation, Xbox, Wii to name a few are great BUT nothing compares to the good ole' days... (to me anyway) I'll be treating myself to the Mega Drive console as a self-Christmas pressie...

The developers have even included a bit of modern tech for convenience by making both the controllers wireless!  How good is that also..?

Well as I stated, totally un-Parra related but thought I'd share just in case there's some retro peeps in this group who would love to once again own these unique pieces of nostalgic entertainment consoles & take a stroll down memory lane...

Oh, why on earth hasn't Frank Pritchard been formally announced by the club yet? cooling off period perhaps..I'm gunna be playing Mortal Kombat on my work Christmas holidays OH YEA, go Parra

by the way we have the Warriors,Manly & Saints in our pool draw for the Auckland 9s

  • You should have a look into Retropie

    • Yep no point laying out big dollars when most pc's can run an emulator pretty easily.

  • Thing is , it seems like a good idea until you actually play them and realise these games are now shite .
    • Thats exactly it wiz, the romance of these old games is one thing but after playing them for 30 minutes the charm disappears a bit.

Id rather get vintage games through my PS4, stuff like 1942 is still ok.

Ive got mortal Kombat on my PS4, theres no way id play the old one, new games are too good mostly.

    • Mate, I got the Sega Mega Drive last week, bring jawing off to the 18 year old step-son about how awesome the games were back in the day. We loaded it up and.....wow, the games weren't that crash hot....same same as old TV shows, watched a few episodes of The Goodies on the weekend, loved it as a kid, but now....ahh I think I killed my good memory of the show by watching it again
  • Thanks for letting me know regardless of how old these games are I will defo be picking up both on the way home from work tonight! Legend
    • no worries mate

  • Its turned into a debacle though. I wanted a NES bad but they sold out before they got here. Had a second release and they sold out too. Don't bother going to the shops to grab one as they are all gone it sucks. I was hoping to get one before Xmas.

  • JEZZA, hold the phone mate, you need to review both of these, theres really poor reviews for both, i looked into them a while back when i got a PS4.

The controls are meant to be terrible, i read really bad reviews.

    • yea mate, I love my PS4...play it at least 3 times a week.

I've previously owned the Wii & Xbox360 a well, I think I just get a bit excited when old childhood memories come flooding back, geeze I used to get excited about playing the old Atari or Commodore64 haha

Modern tech is awesome with online playing but also a dam curse...when you're in the middle of a gaming battle with an opponent overseas & someone's internet connection gives way..GGGRRRR.....

But yes I did carefully read the reviews about these retro gaming consoles & have decided against purchasing
