Retiring Jersey's

I know they do this in the NBA and also in European soccer when a club great retires

what are your thoughts on this matter?

When Hindy retires, should we retire the #11 jersey?

I know he hasn't won a premiership (yet), but i seriously doubt there will ever be a greater Eel than him. I wouldn't mind seeing his jersey retired when he calls it stumps.

I know we got exciting young superstars in our team but for me, Hindy IS Parra.

Maybe his jersey could be framed and placed outside or inside the stadium somewhere?

Should NRL clubs start to introduce this tradition?

  • Absolutely not!

The jersey numbers in NBA and AFL (and sometimes in soccer) do not correspond positionally whereas in League and Union they do! You simply cannot retire a jersey in League!

Besides, the NRL have already quashed the idea of retiring jerseys when Souths tried to retire the 14 jersey at the passing of Don Lane.
  • If that's the case they should've retired Pricey's '8', Sterlo's '7' and Cronin's '4'. With Hindmarsh's '11' gone too we'll be fast running out of numbers. The next bloke in will be "1267"....
  • Although i think this is a noble idea but i have to agree with johnny suede we would end up with #'s a mile long....and we would get lost with whos playing in what position just like the super league idiots who thought the players could have their own personal number and that went well now didnt it..lol
what i think might be ok is to maybe retire the jersey for 1 year perhaps or even have a respect day and retire the jumper for a certain game during the following year, something like that perhaps
  • Yeh nah shouldnt happen. They are positional numbers. Better off we remember the great "Number 11's" that have played the game and for parra than just one man. Even though hes a champ.
  • get rid of all that old useless signage at the backs of the hill and put up a big picture of Hindy's crack at each end of the ground - that way anyone kicking goals will be put off......

Can't retire the Jersey but we could do something else but not sure what......is the run out Tunnel named?? You could place his Jersey above that so when the players run out they can tap it.... Or is that just too werid???
  • Or could we rename the entire Stadium "The Crack" after his butt?
  • Why dont we paint every number '11' seat in the Stadium with a Hindmarsh Jersy - call me a thinking man
