Relegation

Australia and i think Canada are the few soccer leagues that dont have relegation. Not a bad reality .Maybe introduce it into the NRL. Might wake us the fuck up.

  • There are massive legal issues with introducing promotion/relegation to a competition that is already up and running and generating so much money. The reason it exists unchallenged in Europe and elsewhere is because it was in place before professionalism made clubs ruthlessly guard their turf. And actually in Argentina it was successfully challenged a couple of decades ago by one of the big founding clubs, which forced a change to the way relegation from the top division was handled.
  • In the nrl it would never work. Let's say manly and parra drop down at the end of the year. I'm pretty sure both teams would be flogging teams in nsw cup, the step up in standards is to great. And their isn't enough players, or coverage. Ridiculous
  • Not enough quality players.
    • Exactly! If Parra finished last and Wentworthville first, do you think Wentworthville would do any better? Sandow would get more game time though.
  • Haha no doubt
  • Actually if you search this idea its being entertained in a fair few forums a little more open to discuss hypertheticals. Its no suprise most have the eels as their eg.
  • lol!!!

  • To be honest I don't think it would wake us up if this was introduced. Bludge all year, get paid then bludge some more in the lower grades and still get paid. I think a lot of our players would take this attitude.

  • This works in the ESL but couldn't work here because the format and clubs are vastly different. You have more semi pro teams over there that actually have the ability to go pro even if they would be cellar dwellers. The only club that could handle it financially in Sydney would be the Wests Magpies or a Qld Cup team because they both have a leagues club to back them.
  • Really really bad idea imo, first of all you would have to be a complete imbecile to want it if your and eels fan, whys that? BECAUSE WE WOULD BE THE ONES GETTING RELEGATED every year fek me.

Not only that but i dont think our game could support it on many fronts, its just not visible.
