Reed looked pissed that he was brought off, do we all think it was planned around that time or was he in some words hooked for a collection of clumsy errors he had in the second half? Honestly Rein looked ok but felt better when Reed was out there, if you wanted Rein to level out the middle defence in the late stages of the match he can be used at Lock. Just towards the end when Gold Coast were getting momentum and coming back felt Reed should have been out there 10mins earlier than he actually was.
Rein though was fine, he looked like a debutant trying to make an impression. But yeah wonder if Reed was meant to come off at that time or BA pulled the trigger for different reasons. Reed did not look impressed at all and all i say to that is you do as you are told as a footballer.

Wait until Gus gets him hooked whilst watching from the Chairman's Lounge
And blames the then coach for not using him right, then proceeds to explain how he should be used but then backtracks and says "but i'm not the coach"
I thought Rein was good considering it was his first run. Defs will be a handy backup as the year goes on and he gets more comfortable in the team.
He definitely looked better than the trials and seemed to carry his NSW Cup form into the game. He was bouncing around the ruck, looking to isolate defenders, provided good service. Hopefully he's there next week.
His service is still pedestrian compared to Reed and he still made his customary error.
However, I do favour giving Reed a spell because running him into the ground making 60 tackles a game is not a receipe to win a premiership, as we all witnessed last season.
Rest Reed during the regular season, so that when the finals arrive he can and will play 80 minutes when we NEED him to.
Reed's service is just elite, you can't replace that. But having an experienced hooker there to spell him is good. And the error, well, he was trying to get us moving and tried to create something. I can't really fault that. I'm okay with errors if you're trying something
Great points and well reasoned! Agree about trying to create an opportunity. Rein was trying to create a break and he was unlucky the Titan tackled around the ball.
Bringing Rein in is needed to preserve Reed for the finals. Reed hasn't been able to make a full year so far so BA's doing the right thing by managing his time.
I'd be giving Reed the week off against the Tigers and blooding Hands for the second half of the game.
We have a couple of big games coming up so having him right for the Panthers and Roosters will be critical.
First of all agree 100% with your comments re Rein Wiz!
Clintorian, giving players a week off can only be driven by the players condition and form....neither aspect is under review to my understanding. I think playing Rein as a 14 is the process we want and need to develop. Opportunities will come when required and not picking full strength sides only gives opportunities to weaker sides. i.e. 2 points against Wests is just as important at this stage as 2 against Penrith.... we cannot give another side any opportunities and also upset the rythm of the individual player.
You don't win comps in April Poppa, but we have lost finals without Mahoney being at the helm. BA needs to manage Mahoneys physical workload so instead of being busted at the end of the season, he's fit and firing.
