REGRETS. I'VE HAD A FEW!

Everybody has regrets. Some have missed opportunities that have cost them plenty $$$$. Here is one of the biggest I have heard.

In the year 2000 the owners of Blockbuster video got offered to buy Netflix for $50 Million and they passed. 10 years later Blockbuster was bankrupt. Today, Netflix is worth $289.09 Billion. If my math is correct, that is more than a 500,000% increase on the value of Netflix in 21 years. How sick would you feel?

If you could go back in time and change 1 decision you regret what would it be?

  • yer look I have a bad feeling about this, and haven't slept properly since this blog, we need to look more

  • 25 years ago I went down to beautiful Cabarita Beach for a two week holiday. I rented out a little two bedroom unit that was part of an old six pack style unit block that was on the beachfront. A literal 20m walk to the incredible white sandy beaches, turquoise water & perfect right to left sets of the Tweed Coast.

Anyhoo, the unit I was renting happened to be on the market for 125k, at the time I had 10k in savings and a permanent salaried position with a mining company .... and I didn't buy it.

5 years later, the southward sprawl hit Kingscliff, then Cudgen and finally Cabarita, the unit block was sold to a developer for $12m, each unit owner getting $2m.

And I passed the fucker up because I wasn't sure if I wanted to go into debt at age 22.

    If I had a time machine ....

    • That'd be about 10 years after a mates parents bought a bock up there for fuck all as the risk was you had to buy without any promises you'd ever be able to build on the blocks.  In the end they had to wait about another decade before it all was approved. They've probably been up there about 25 years now beachfront at Cabarita. Think they paid 10 grand for their block.

I remember them saying to my oldies and even me that we should buy these blocks but you won't be able to build or even run utilities to the blocks for at least 10 years.  I was an apprentice and wanted to spend my money on smoo, my oldies said fuck that what If we end up with a few blocks that are good for nothing forever.

      • The locals tried to hold off development for as long as they could, but it's subsumed Kingscliff, Cudgen, Cabarita, Hastings Point, Pottsville, almost all the way down to Byron now.
