Reg

Can anyone give us their 2 bobs worth of wisdom as to why JR is moving Reg on?  What is he thinking?  Do you think JR has someone already in mind to replace Reg?

  • I'm thinking guys like matto, lane and moretti will step into the middle roles. Reg is a big body similar to Paulo and most teams now have a more mobile pack. Both lane and matto should be used as frfs along with Joe o

    • And Reg can kick goals too.  More mobility in the pack was what I was guessing.  But in terms of making yards and post contact metres he's consistently up there. .

  • It's purely money.
Reg is on big coin for a Prop apparently (I'm hearing $750k, not sure if true). He's contracted to the Eels for 2025 on that money. He wants a 2 year extension at around that money 2026, 2027. Eels have said no, please shop yourself around to see what you can find. So far he hasn't landed a deal. Dragons only offered him 2025, 2026 and not sure at the price.
If he can't land a new deal he could still be here next year.

    • I saw a report yesterday that said this year was 750k and next year it dropped to 630k from memory maybe a bit more. Not sure if true.

    • Yes, that's what I was thinking.  He may not land on the terms he wants at another club, so would take unders and stay?

    • I still don't see why him not having a contract for 26 onwards is our problem.

      • 2026 is not our problem, but if he doesn't land a contract extension via another club starting in 2025 (ie that club would have to take on his current Parra contract), well then he will take up his PO for 2025 with us. After that he is out the door or on much smaller coin..

        • Exactly , who cares . We need him for 2025 , after that could not care less if he has to land a job as a lolli pop man at the local special kids school.  Not our issue.

I actually see keeping him for 2025 as our advantage as he's going to be putting in big time if he wants to land a decent paid contract elsewhere after that.  All I see is us weakening our squad to help him prolong his career.  Let's hope there's a method in the madness because as it stands we need him.

          • I think that method is salary cap pressure, otherwise he would have stayed for 2025. We've already signed Lomax and Iongi and no doubt there will be others as well. Frankly, we need his money for other players.
