Reform the point system NRL!

Reform is long overdue.I believe that, in the name of fairness, each game has 3 points on offer. If a team wins in 80 minutes, it gets awarded 3 points. If the scores are level after full time, each team is awarded 1 point and the lone point is added to the team which is in front after extra time. Golden point system does not reward the efforts of players after 80 minutes of footie. What do you think?

  • Yeh this the way to go, rewarding a team that puts the other team to the sword
  • Lol
  • On an even playing field that suggestion would be fine. But when some teams are playing the Tigers & Titans twice, others would be further disadvantaged.

    A big No.
  • I'm old fashioned.

Apart from finals where you need a winner, then a draw after 80 mins means both teams share the points.

We're not soccer where the team with the best penalty shot taker/drop goal kicker wins 9 out of 10 golden points.

The game is 80mins long and the aim is to score more points than you opponent in those 80mins.
  • Hahaha
  • I vote bring in Extra time where no matter what you play the extra ten minutes or if scores are level after the 80mins then its a draw. These are the only two real options and with for/against in play it give teams more of an incentive to play the whole 80mins even if there losing. Knowing that if they let the score get out of control it may come back to bite them later in the year. Although that being said i would hate for Parra to miss out on the finals because of for/against.

Golden point is ridiculous. You just get in position and kick. Nobody ever goes for the win via a try. The nines show that very few people can get a field goal unless it's right in front so i'd actually prefer extra time. Or even let the teams decide whether or not they want to play an extra ten minutes or just keep it as a draw.

  • On golden point why not go for a slightly modified version of the NFL overtime

If a try is scored for then the game is over, if however a field or penalty goal is kicked then the opposition is given 1 set to better it (basically score a try)

So it doesn't take the field goal out of the equation like golden try would, but if you decide to go for a field goal then you do so backing your defense to be able to stop to opposition.

It would've also given someone like Ben Hunt a chance and redemption in last years grand final.

  • I believe that the emphases should be on scoring points to win the game. Say for example the score is 15 all at fulltime then the team that scores the 15 points first should be awarded the points. It should be the other teams focus to score more points that the opponent. Also of course why would you want to force the players to play extra minutes now that there is less interchange.

    • Again not fair. If a gale is blowing and team with breeze at backs scores all its points in first half and opposition scores all in second half.

  • lol@Wiz

I would take two players off the field from each team in a drawn game and play for golden try.
