How ridiculous was the Roosters v Souths game? 7 players sin-binned.
I think ever since referees stopped refereeing strictly by the rules and started 'managing' the game they have lost control which was why we had the farce we saw yesterday.
This is why there is absolutely no consistency in penalties given because they are all 'interpreted' by the ref as he 'manages' the game. How many times in a game do you see things and think oh that's got to be a penalty, but no nothing, and then not long after they blow a penalty and you think what was that for?
Instead of constantly reminding players 'Get back' or 'OK let him up' or shouting out 'release' just penalise them. They will soon get the message not to slow down the ruck or to stay onside, every other generation of players seemed to manage it. Each year the defensive line seems to be up in the face of the attack that little bit quicker and the average play-the-ball speed is getting slower as refs 'manage' the game.
Then as we saw yesterday when they blow a penalty the players have so little respect for them they are in their faces yelling at them about the decision and the ref just lets them and even worse tried to explain to them what they are doing, sin bin those players and it will stop it is embarrassing to watch.
At least in rugby while the refs don't 'manage' the game and let decisions become so inconsistent you have no idea what one penalty to the next is given for and they don't allow players to stand in their faces and yell at them.
As a side note I hope Brad realises that a head high shot is about the only thing that will get penalised in the finals series and gets our players to slow down the ruck like everyone is.

What I don't understand is Klein got dropped for his ridiculous decision in the cowboys/tigers game. There was not one single controversy the following week including the Cleary send off, yet the following week he was straight back refereeing. He should of been sat off for 2,3 or 4 weeks minimum. Klein and Sutton are protected species
Klein is the NRLs golden boy , he will always get the result for, them that's why . I've watched enough of him to see he's dubious at best .
The NRL want them managing the game as that's how they manage the result. How many times do you see one side penalised for a ruck infringement or awarded another set , but then see that same side not getting the same afforded to them when even worse examples of a ruck infringement is exercised on them.
It's blatant corruption before our eyes and we just have to suck eggs and hope it's our time each year. Yesterdays game was a prime example. Burgess allowed to stay on the paddock as he was the difference between those teams. Take him out and The Roosters win. Souffs were holding down all game , I saw more high shots than I've seen us do all seaon , crushers , grapples , working their faces , and only a few of them got pulled up and placed on report .
Robinson got it right in a classy post-match presser. It was the players fault, not Klein's. No Qualms from Jason Demetriou either, he seemed to agree.
He lost the game when he didn't bin Burgess . It set the tone.
Robinsons correct , the players spent the rest of the game squaring up for the incidents that were let go . But it was due to Klein and his cohorts not having the respect of the players.
You have summed it up perfectly.
They aren't referees, they are game managers.
This is the reason Klein is the games best "referee" because he is a yes man and will do exactly what he is told to do by V'Landys and Abdo.
Can you imagine Hollywood Harrigan putting up with the crap in the game that the current crop of game managers let happen.
Badger was one of the best referees in the game but got pushed out because he wasn't willing to bend over like Klein.
Imagine how much they loved Checcin. Nobody bent over like Matt Checcin did.
Gay jokes aside, Chicken Legs Checcin was better than the current crop of game managers.
Easily... best ref we've seen for many years...
I think there is one way of solving this, let players punch on. Simple. When all you can do is niggle and wrestle due to not punching it can consistently happen. If you let them punch it out, more times than enough it will lead to getting out of their system. Not all the time, but most times.
Do like NHL, let them have their moment then move on.
